About The Position

The RN - Telephone Triage uses approved protocols to assist in providing direct patient care relating to all aspects of Physician ambulatory treatment involving telephone triage. Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm, eight hour shifts No evenings, weekends or holidays! Requirements

  • This position requires an active RN License for the state(s) of practice.
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.N.) from a four-year college or university preferred; Associate’s degree or diploma acceptable.
  • Position requires three or more years of RN experience in a critical care setting, i.e., ICU, ED.
  • Current CPR certification, if not it must be obtained within 60 days of employment and kept current thereafter.
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Attendance and punctuality are essential requirements of this position to provide excellent customer service to both our internal and external stakeholders
  • Requires the ability to hear and speak clearly.
  • This position is normally required to sit approximately ninety (90) percent of the day with an occasional need to walk, bend, twist and carry 5-10 pounds a distance up to four (4) feet.
  • This position requires the ability to answer telephone calls, transfer calls and work on the computer.

  • Experience with a Practice Management system is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive telephone assessments using established triage protocols and sound nursing judgment.
  • Prioritize and respond to calls involving critical labs, urgent clinical questions, and provider-directed concerns to ensure timely care.
  • Determine the urgency of patient needs and provide clear recommendations, including self-care advice, scheduling acute care appointments, or directing patients to higher levels of care when necessary.
  • Document all patient interactions thoroughly and accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and care team members to ensure continuity and coordination of care.
  • Provide patient education regarding symptoms, medications, laboratory/infusion orders and follow-up instructions.
  • Monitor and manage incoming patient messages and phone calls in accordance with established triage response timelines.
  • Recognize and escalate “red flag” symptoms that require immediate provider involvement or emergency referral.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to support patient safety, access, and satisfaction.
