Shift: Full-Time - 7P-7A (Rotating Weekends) OU Medical Center - Oklahoma City, OK The new Neurology/Neurosurgery Care Unit (NNCU) located in the University of Oklahoma Medical Center, Tower B, 2 East , is now seeing patients! This unit features significant patient room upgrades, and care for a mixture of med/surg and stepdown patients.This comprehensive unit provides elevated care to some of OU Health's most complex patients, encouraging team-based care and easier access to services. Our unit focuses on all things Neuro! Our patient population includes diagnosis of strokes, seizures, brain mass, and neck and spinal surgery. This unit specializes in 24-7 epilepsy monitoring, where patients are being closely monitored and observed for any seizure activity. We will provide you the necessary tools in successfully performing a Yale swallow screening and becoming NIHSS certified (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification). OU Health has introduced a groundbreaking hybrid nursing model that integrates both virtual and in-person nursing teams, aimed at improving care coordination and bolstering the nursing workforce within the state's premier academic health system. The OU Health Nurse Residency Program provides the graduate nurse with resources and rich experiences that will serve as a strong foundation for a successful nursing career. OU Health nurse residents receive guidance and support from a primary preceptor and clinical education specialist to successfully bridge the transition from student to professional practice. The program features ongoing structured learning opportunities for residents, a strong social support network, mentoring and preparation to obtain national certification in their chosen specialty area. Candidates must have a current RN license or compact RN license to practice in Oklahoma prior to beginning the program and have less than one year of RN clinical experience to be eligible to enroll in our Nurse Residency Program. General Description: An OU Health Registered Nurse (RN) I works under general supervision, providing the highest quality of care to patients in a hospital setting with health problems ranging from simple to complex. RN I represents the nurse who is a novice or an advanced beginner advancing to competent. The advanced beginner may have enough real experience to begin to formulate principles.

Requirements

Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
0-3 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse.
Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).
Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
Candidates must have a current RN license or compact RN license to practice in Oklahoma prior to beginning the program and have less than one year of RN clinical experience to be eligible to enroll in our Nurse Residency Program.

Responsibilities

Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting all changes in physician order on assigned patients.
Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.
Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes the physiological manifestations of patients, and intervenes when necessary.
Administers medication as prescribed.
Initiates, regulates and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
Delivers patient care safely and competently.
Resolves patient complaints in a timely manner in accordance with policy and in collaboration with support staff.
Informs patient and family of hospital procedures and shares care plan during the time of care and at the time of discharge.
Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
Fosters a growth mindset through seeking mentorship, remaining open to coaching and feedback, and maintaining professional certification(s)/licensure in order to perpetually develop and uphold the skills required for proficiency within the nursing profession.
Develops a professional career plan and establishes personal, performance goals in alignment with enterprise-wide metrics, frequently measuring progress with department leadership.

Delegates tasks to clinical support staff as needed.
