The PRN Dialysis Registered Nurse provides specialized, patient-centered care to individuals undergoing dialysis treatment. This role requires a strong foundation of professional and technical knowledge to ensure the safe and effective application of dialysis principles. The RN delivers care within their clinical scope and competencies, ensuring high‑quality treatment, continuous monitoring, and thorough patient support throughout the dialysis process. Working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary care team, the PRN Dialysis RN upholds clinical standards, promotes patient safety, and contributes to a positive treatment experience. This role offers flexible scheduling while maintaining the same level of clinical excellence and accountability expected in a full‑time dialysis nursing position. This per diem position requires the following minimum commitments: 1 shift per pay period (12 hours) 1 weekend shift per month 1 summer and 1 winter holiday

Requirements

  • Possesses adequate skills and knowledge to provide care to the adult and geriatric renal patient.
  • RN - Registered Nurse
  • BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA)
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program

Nice To Haves

  • Previous acute and chronic dialysis experience preferred.
  • ANNA certification preferred
  • NIH Stroke Certification

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of renal diseases and related treatment modalities.
  • Deliver safe, effective dialysis treatments, including performing required 1:1 bedside treatments for acute patients, including those in the ICU.
  • Collaborate with attending nephrologists to plan, coordinate, and implement dialysis for chronic ESRD patients, acute starts, and any patient identified as needing dialysis.
  • Operate and maintain dialysis delivery systems and water treatment equipment.
  • Conduct daily monitoring, cleaning, and disinfecting of dialysis machines per policy and safety standards.
  • Perform and document routine water quality checks to ensure compliance and patient safety.
  • Provide direct oversight, guidance, and support to Dialysis Patient Care Technicians (PCTs).
  • Foster a professional, supportive work environment focused on safety, teamwork, and high‑quality patient care.
  • Promote effective communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Maintain accountability for supply management and ensuring resources are available for safe, efficient dialysis operations.
  • Uphold organizational, regulatory, and clinical standards governing dialysis care.
  • Contribute to a positive and professional milieu that supports patient safety and staff well‑being.
  • Participate in required on‑call rotations, including after-hours and weekend coverage, to support patient care needs.
