The RTC Registered nurse is responsible for applying clinical nursing knowledge and skills to promote the safety and comfort of patients and families according to legal, organizational, and professional standards. This position will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to provide exceptional care to RTC patients through education, nursing assessment, and administration of medication. The RTC Registered Nurse assesses physiological and psychosocial needs, implements nursing interventions, and communicates patient concerns to the healthcare team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • Valid and current Texas RN license
  • BLS through American Heart Association
  • Completion annually of 10 CEU’s related to Emergency Care
  • 5+ years RN experience
  • 2+ years ICU & Emergency Department experience
  • Experience with EMRs
  • Demonstrated ability to use equipment and related supplies for selected patient population and for CPR, oxygen administration, and intravenous therapy
  • Proven basic Computer Skills
  • Proven clear communication skills both verbal and written

Responsibilities

  • Participate in patient care activities and adheres to the requirement of a Registered Nurse when providing direct patient care
  • Plan and implement patient care
  • Make sound nursing judgment based on nursing theory
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skill of assessment, including assessing for toxicities, medication side effects, and overall well-being
  • Review lab values and assess for treatment toxicity prior to administering medication to patients
  • Ensure patient is appropriate for prescribed treatment and witnesses written consent if indicated
  • Provide patients with verbal and written educational materials related to the disease process, prescribed medication, and/or symptom management
  • Accurately administer medication to patients as prescribed by the physician
  • Demonstrate ability to start peripheral IV, administer IV, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and oral medications according to safe practice guidelines
  • Consider the needs of the department by preplanning and proactively adjusting as needed
  • Organize and utilize equipment, supplies, and medication according to patient needs based upon the physician order
  • Ensure medical record documentation is legible, concise, accurate, and timely
  • Assess and individualize the needs of each client and respond appropriately, utilizing available patient resources
  • Perform in-person and telephone patient assessment and documentation via electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Assume responsibility for competency of practice and takes initiative for professional development and continuing education
  • Prioritize urgency of patients’ needs and is a patient advocate in meeting those needs
  • Respond to patient emergencies within the Rapid Treatment Clinic
  • Practice positive guest and peer relationships; support and respect patients’ rights
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationship with all members of the healthcare delivery system
  • Adhere to policy regarding advanced directives, informed consent, and patient complaints
  • Accurately complete clinical logs
  • Ensure that documentation of charges is accurate and complete and communicates all important facts to Director, Clinic Administrator, and Nursing Supervisor
  • Actively participate in quality improvement activities
  • Understand the clinic’s Quality Improvement Program and Initiatives
  • Understand the Quality Improvement Process
  • Identify opportunities for quality improvement and makes appropriate suggestions to nursing management
  • Participate in quality improvement projects as appropriate
  • Complete assigned quality improvement tasks in a timely and accurate manner
  • Maintain active professional relationships with doctors, co-workers, external customers, patients, and caregivers by assessing needs and levels of satisfaction
  • Demonstrate a positive, friendly, and courteous manner
  • Identify opportunities to enhance customer service
  • Report inefficiencies, deficiencies, and unusual occurrences to Director/Clinic Administrator/Supervisor
  • Serve as a role model to other staff members
  • Maintain confidentiality on matters to which they are privileged

  • Oversee coordination of patient services
  • Assume responsibility of assigned clinic patients
  • Explain policies, procedures, and methods to others
  • Appropriately delegate tasks to unlicensed assistive personnel
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new employees
  • Ensure proper use of resources (time and supplies)
  • Carefully use supplies and medicines to avoid waste
  • Report when supplies are low and need ordering
  • Ensure documentation of charges are accurate and complete
  • Keep accurate time records
  • Stock clinic with supplies as needed
  • Assist in keeping supply closet neat and organized
  • Identify opportunities to be more cost-effective and efficient
  • Comply with local, state, and federal rules and regulations and accreditation guidelines
  • Report 100% of regulatory concerns or unusual occurrences to supervisor and/or manager within 24 hours of occurrences
  • Notify supervisor or manager immediately when patient injury or disaster occurs
  • Keep RN license and all required certifications current and on file at the center
  • Adhere to all facility safety regulations and guidelines related to patient safety
  • Maintain unit in safe condition
  • Keep hallways clear
  • Secure electrical wiring
  • Report broken equipment
  • Participate in quarterly safety compliance drills and/or in-services
  • Identify, correct, and report unsafe conditions immediately
  • Provide an environment to prevent and control the spread of disease within the clinical setting
  • Perform hand washing
  • Utilize aseptic and sterile technique
