About The Position

The Quality Consultant RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating quality and patient safety initiatives in collaboration with various stakeholders within SMP and across SHC enterprise. By utilizing clinical acumen, data analysis, and quality improvement methodologies, the Quality Consultant RN identifies areas of clinical opportunities and coordinates improvement of processes and outcomes. This role supports the following programs/activities: patient safety incident review, monitoring of infection prevention and control practices, peer review and quality of care grievance, development of clinical policies, as well as training/education of staff and clinicians on priority quality and patient safety initiatives. This is a Stanford Medicine Partners job.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience within a large acute care hospital or ambulatory health care system.
Knowledge of performance improvement methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma.
Knowledge of project management and change management methodologies.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.
Advances quantitative skills and ability to use statistics for data evaluation.
Strong communication, collaboration, influencing, teamwork, project, and time management skills.
Demonstrated ability to implement new programs/projects with focus on continuous process improvement across multiple projects at multiple sites concurrently.
Knowledge of licensure and scope of practice of various healthcare disciplines.
Competency in computer systems and software used in functional areas including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Working knowledge of statistical analysis and reporting practices pertaining to quality improvement and program evaluation.
Committed to own continuous education, and networking with affiliate institutions, organizations or associations and other health care providers, to stay in touch with developments and trends in health care market as it relates to best practices in the areas of quality and risk.
Experience working with Epic, Midas, and other clinical applications.
Ability to effectively work with others in a flexible, cooperative, and collaborative manner.
CA-RN (Registered Nurse) license.

Responsibilities

Review patient safety incidents and follow up with clinic leaders to eliminate or mitigate risk of patient harm.
Refer case to other departments as appropriate.
Develop mechanisms for communication of patient safety learnings, best practices, and process improvements.
Coordinate implementation of patient safety initiatives such as Just Culture and Culture of Safety survey; collaborate with SHC and SHC Tri-Valley to standardize and align patient safety review processes.
Identify barriers to the implementation of patient safety initiatives, develop/recommend corrective measures, and implement improvements.
Track and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented changes and make adjustments as needed.
Provide training/consultation to staff, management, and clinicians promoting the use of the patient safety incident reporting system with emphasis on reporting near misses.
Review and analyze data from various quality databases to identify trends and opportunities.
Design and develop data collection tools and dashboards to help aggregate, analyze, and visualize data.
Identify the appropriate use of quality improvement tools and methodologies such as PDSA, Lean Six Sigma, and Statistical Process Control analysis in facilitating performance improvement projects.
Provide guidance and support to clinical teams, assigned committees, and workgroups on quality improvement methodologies.
Partner with clinic leaders to implement evidence-based practices on patient safety, infection control, and clinical standards.
Ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and best practices in healthcare.
Conduct in-depth chart review of quality of care grievances and peer review cases.
Generate SBAR to summarize findings and recommendations.
Collaborate with other stakeholders to develop or revise policies and procedures pertaining to quality and patient safety.
Maximize productivity by focusing on goals, purpose, and priorities.
Complete written reports and projects within appropriate time frames.
Review tasks, set priorities, and revise plans for effective time management.
Perform other duties as assigned within the department and enterprise wide.
