The Registered Nurse (RN) assesses, implements, and evaluates care for assigned patients under the direction of a licensed physician. The RN is expected to be knowledgeable about nursing practice principles, theories, current methods, and techniques. Utilizing the nursing process, the RN collaborates with patients, their families/significant others, professional peers, and other healthcare team members to individualize patient care. The RN also directs nursing support staff in patient care provision, adhering to nursing practice standards and administrative/departmental policies. Professional education, training, or additional certifications may be required by specialty area.
