About The Position

This position is for a PACU Nurse responsible for the post-operative care of patients recovering from anesthesia. The role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a high-pressure environment, and a keen eye for detail when monitoring patients. Key duties include observing patients for anesthesia side effects, monitoring and recording vital signs and consciousness levels, performing post-operative tasks like medication administration and dressing changes, and maintaining patient records. The PACU Nurse will collaborate with the patient's care team, provide comfort to waking patients, and educate patients and families on post-surgery home care. Required qualifications include graduation from a State board approved professional nursing program, a current Pennsylvania State RN license, and certification in basic CPR, ACLS, and PALS. The nurse must also maintain position-specific skills, competencies, and continuing education units annually.

Requirements

  • Excellent Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable working in a high pressure environment.
  • Good eye for detail while monitoring patients.
  • Ability to quickly notify medical personnel regarding abnormal side effects or changes in patients condition.
  • Proficiency with hospital management systems, such as Meditech Expanse.
  • Graduate of a State board approved program of Professional nursing.
  • Holds a current Pennsylvania State License as a Registered Nurse.
  • Certified in basic CPR, ACLS, and PALS.
  • Maintains position specific skills, and competencies as required on annual basis.
  • Maintains CEU's appropriates to discipline in order to maintain Licensure.

  • Critical Care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Observing patients, for side effects of anesthesia.
  • Monitoring, and recording patient vital signs
  • Monitoring patient's level of consciousness throughout sedation recovery.
  • Performing post-operative tasks, such as administering medication or changing dressings.
  • Checking and updating patient files, charts, and medical records.
  • Collaborating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, physicians, and other members of patients care team.
  • Providing comfort, and answering questions when patients wake from sedation
  • Educating patients, and families regarding post-surgery care at home.
