Requirements

  • Current Montana RN license or a multi-state compact license with authorization to practice nursing within the state of Montana; required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ RN experience in a similar position within a medical setting (e.g. physician office, clinic, or hospital) required.
  • Experience in assigned area(s) preferred.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory to administer and evaluate patient care; basic medical office procedures and medical terminology.
  • Healthcare Provider (HCP) CPR, ACLS, and/or BLS certification required and/or as dictated by each practice/service line.
  • Knowledge of equipment, supplies, and instruments used in a medical office; simple routine clinical laboratory methods, universal blood and body fluid precautions.
  • Must have knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations, established protocol for storing poisons, narcotics, acids, caustics, and flammable items; restriction imposed by various manage care carriers, various forms inherent to profession.
  • Understanding of the confidentiality laws that govern the provider-patient relationship, including but not limited to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Commitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality as needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.

  • Hematology/Oncology: Non-Pediatric locations: ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Fundamental Provider Card through Oncology Nurses Society (ONS) preferred or must successfully obtain within one (1) year of hire.
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certificate Course Provider Card preferred or must successfully obtain within two (2) years’ of hire.
  • Current Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) through the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) preferred or must successfully obtain within three (3) years’ of hire.
  • Pediatrics: APHON Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Card through Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) preferred or must successfully obtain within one (1) year of hire.
  • Current certification through the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (CPHON or CPON) preferred.
  • Must successfully obtain Certified Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Nurse (CPHON) within three (3) years’ of hire.
  • Annual Hematology/Oncology Specific Continuing Nursing Education Units required per work location and department procedure and protocol until successfully obtained.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements and coordinates individualized, goal directed nursing care to patients through the use of the nursing process as appropriate for RN’s as applicable to the assigned area(s).
  • Maintains nursing standards of care and responds to changing workloads and patient conditions by: remaining calm, making objective assessments, prioritizing, and asking for assistance as appropriate.
  • Transcribes and implements provider orders and treatments both verbal and written accurately and efficiently as noted by chart reviews and observation.
  • Consistently problem solves issues affecting patient care.
  • Exhibits a thorough practice of infection control procedures per policy and procedure as applicable to the assigned area(s).
  • As applicable to assigned area(s); Performs clinical testing using a variety of automated and non-automated techniques; collects, packages, and accurately labels all specimens immediately upon receipt; forwards to designated lab(s) according to established protocols.
  • Provides individual instruction to patients and families concerning health and medical needs via telephone triage and/or patient visit.
  • Performs administrative duties per department procedure and as applicable to assigned area(s).
  • Exhibits competency in telephone triage, abnormal diagnostics and/or lab results, assesses the problem, and plans the appropriate interventions in coordination with providers.
  • Utilizes nursing judgment to recommend minor self-care management interventions at home. Documents triage calls in EMR.
  • As applicable to the assigned area(s); coordinates care and follow-up for lab work, transfusions, and/or infusions in patient’s preferred community and locations.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact and coordination for associated treatment and/or infusion services.
  • Assesses and anticipates the needs of the patient, and coordinates the necessary interventions as defined by policy, procedure and the written/verbal orders of the provider as applicable to assigned area(s).
  • Under the direction of the provider(s), oversees and directs the care provided by assistive personnel, maintaining final accountability for the care given to assigned patients and/or families as applicable to assigned area(s).
  • Maintains regular and consistent attendance as scheduled by department leadership.
