About The Position

The Operating Room Circulator Registered Nurse (RN) at Prevea Health is responsible for ensuring a safe, sterile, and effective environment during surgical procedures. This nurse serves as the primary liaison between the surgical team, ensuring all areas and departments are coordinated ensuring all necessary equipment, supplies, and patient care needs are met.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited and approved Nursing program Required
  • Current and valid Registered Nurse license with the state of Wisconsin Upon Hire Required
  • CPR certification- Basic Life Support & Advanced Cardiac Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification from an approved program. Required
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies, relations and procedures to administer patient care
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments and administer patient care
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
  • Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care
  • Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence
  • Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Understanding of surgical protocols, sterile techniques, and infection control standards.
  • Ability to interpret, adapts, and applies guidelines and procedures
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Capable of providing emotional support to the patient and serves as their advocate.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Preferred
  • 2 years Operating room or nursing experience Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a sterile environment by managing surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment, and verifying that all necessary items are available for the procedure.
  • Works alongside other OR staff to prepare the patient and the operating room prior to the procedure. This includes checking equipment, monitoring anesthesia administration, and positioning patients for surgery.
  • Monitors patient status during surgery, documents key events, and maintains accurate surgical records, including consent forms and patient history
  • Ensures that the patient is properly prepared for surgery, including verifying the surgical site, checking patient identity, and confirming surgical orders
  • Acts as a point of communication between the surgical team and other areas, ensuring that all surgical team members are informed of any changes or requirements.
  • Assists in room turnover, picking of cases, and restocking of OR suites.
  • Assists with adhering to safety protocols, including infection control, patient positioning, and patient safety measures.
