About The Position

RN- Outpatient Surgery will be responsible for delegation, supervision, and provision of evidence-based nursing care for a designated group of patients through utilization of the nursing process. Provides age appropriate patient care. Implements evidence-based findings into practice and participates in research as appropriate. Part-time 32 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Current RN license in the State of Illinois required.
  • Maintain current BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
  • ACLS certification is preferred.
  • Maintain Provider for PEARS or PALS certification (required within 12 months of hire).
  • Meets credit range for Clinical Ladder levels as follows (12 months experience as a registered nurse is required in order to apply for promotion in the clinical ladder): Clinical Nurse I: Registered Nurse who achieves a range of 0-12 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid. BSN preferred. Clinical Nurse II: Registered Nurse who achieves a range of 13-24 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid with evidence of behaviors from at least two categories of the Grid. BSN preferred. Clinical Nurse III: Registered Nurse who achieves at least 25 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid with evidence of behaviors from at least three categories on the Grid. BSN required.
  • Attends all hospital/nurse manager specified mandatory in-services.
  • Maintains competencies as identified in unit specific requirements.
  • Completion of self-evaluation. It is the incumbent's responsibility to submit to the nurse manager at annual evaluation time documentation to validate annual credentialing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Works within the context of the surgical team to provide care to individuals before, during and after a surgical procedure.
  • Completes assessment of assigned patient's condition, develops individual plan of care for patient.
  • Provide direct patient care to individuals in the pre-surgical, operative and recovery periods.
  • Evaluates outcomes, consults with others as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Teaches and supervises the proper performance of nursing acts that have been delegated to others and monitors nursing care of other health care team members.
  • Promotes patient education and involves the patient and caregivers in the implementation of health goals.
  • Participates in specific patient quality assessment activities, including chart review as required.
  • Assures that department is survey-ready at all times.
  • Performs other related work as required or requested.
