About The Position

Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join their Multispecialty Care team, specifically within Surgical Services at St John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. Ideal candidates are patient-focused, mission-driven caregivers who can apply clinical knowledge to coordinate and perform hands-on acute patient care at the bedside. This role involves oversight and leadership within the assigned area, including managing operational, budgetary, and financial responsibilities, planning and allocating resources, and making business decisions in accordance with organizational policies. The manager will review performance data, monitor productivity, and lead colleagues through performance management and development processes. The primary duty requires advanced knowledge and consistent exercise of discretion and judgment, including managing a department and directing the work of at least two or more employees, with supervisory authority over hiring, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary actions. HSHS is a multi-institutional health care system serving communities throughout Illinois and Wisconsin, with 13 hospitals and numerous health centers. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required (may consider candidates currently enrolled, with BSN obtained within 2 years of hire).
  • 3 years of staff nurse (RN) experience is required.
  • Licensed in state of practice (RN) is required (Wisconsin: RNs may practice with a valid multi-state RN license as outlined in the Nurse Licensure Compact rules).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the management of the overall operational, budgetary, and financial responsibilities and activities within the assigned area.
  • Plan and allocate resources to effectively staff and accomplish work to meet productivity and quality goals.
  • Make business decisions that are financially responsible, accountable, justifiable, and defensible in accordance with organization policies and procedures.
  • Review performance data that includes quality, satisfaction, engagement, and financial reports.
  • Monitor and measure productivity, goal achievement, and overall effectiveness.
  • Participate in the preparation and maintenance of reports necessary to carry out the functions of the area of responsibility.
  • Prepare periodic reports for management, as necessary or requested, to track goal accomplishment.
  • Lead colleagues using performance management and development processes to encourage colleague contribution.
  • Perform work requiring advanced knowledge in a field of science or learning, requiring consistent exercise of discretion and judgment.
  • Manage the department and regularly direct the work of at least two or more employees.
  • Exercise supervisory authority including the ability to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, discipline, responsibly direct or adjust grievances.
  • Evaluate performance and professional development of staff.
