EOE/AA/M/F/D/V Responsibilities: The Nurse Manager is responsible for coordinating the day to day functioning of his/her assigned departments. He/she uses strong organization and interpersonal skills to organize, develop, plan and implement various Health Center and/or department policies & procedures, goals and objectives necessary to provide quality patient care as well as efficient and safe operations. He/she is clinically competent and, at the same time, possesses the strong management and collaboration skills needed to be able to manage issues as they arise. Provides supervision (direct and indirect) and guidance to clinical staff including LPN’s, RN’s, Medical Assistants Unit Secretaries and Patient Registration Representatives. Responsible for coordinating, directing and evaluating activities of the departments he/she is assigned to oversee. Facilitates a two-way flow of communication between clinical staff and management. Collaborates with the Chief Nursing Officer and Medical Directors to ensure that each department is running efficiently, effectively and providing the highest quality care to our patients. Meets budget commitment for materials, supplies and staff by controlling expenses and overtime. Seeks alternative methods to achieve budget objectives. Interprets Health Center policies & procedures, rules and regulations to assigned staff. Responsible for performance evaluations, career development and mentoring of assigned staff. Seeks to use mistakes as learning opportunities and applies disciplinary action if/when needed. Creates and maintains staff schedules to ensure optimum patient care while utilizing staff to the highest level of their abilities. Works to fill any scheduling gaps or unexpected absences. Reviews and edits staff timesheets and approves bi-weekly payroll and vacation requests. Implements Joint Commission standards and monitors the clinical setting for compliance with standards. Participates in Joint Commission related meetings and on-site reviews. Assesses staff’s clinical skills through direct observation and oversight of annual training. Facilitates new hire orientation and ensures completion of annual competencies. Oversees the CPR program: scheduling sessions at least once per quarter and facilitating CPR courses for staff as needed. Performs chart audits and/or nursing peer review to ensure that documentation standards are being met. Organizes orientation of new nursing and medical assistant personnel. Responds appropriately to facility acuity and activity by providing assistance to peers, patients, and staff as needed. Provides direction for Medical Assistants. Monitors and orders immunizations/stock medications and confirms expiration dates on a consistent basis. Expired immunizations/stock medications will be disposed of as directed by facility procedures. May perform the duties outlined in the Registered Nurse job description as department needs dictate: Obtains a nursing history utilizing the patient, family, medical record, professional staff, community agencies and other departments. Interview patients and families to gain ideas, feelings, and facts that help identify their needs and goals. Observe overt and covert signs and symptoms in a systematic way. Identify and record physical, social and psychosocial needs of the patient and family. Develop nursing assessment based on data collection. Responds appropriately in emergency patient care and related situations. Implement appropriate intervention based on an ongoing assessment of patients. Records and reports pertinent data on patient’s electronic health record and to appropriate health team members. Evaluate data obtained in the nursing assessment in making knowledgeable interpretations. Differentiate nursing situation that require priority setting and respond accordingly. Recognize teaching and learning needs of patients and families. Coordinate teaching plan. Provides individual or group patient education and counseling. Assists the provider in developing measurable short and long-term goals that are patient centered and derived from the medical diagnosis. Involve the patient and family in goal setting and individual plan of care. Serves as patient advocate. Defend and preserve the rights of patients pertaining to all aspects of their care, knowledge and privacy. Assists the provider in initiating referrals and utilize available resources within and outside the facility for the purpose of comprehensive care to patients and families. Administers immunizations and treatments. Performs diagnostic test as ordered by provider including, but not limited to: EKG’s, Holter Monitors, hearing and vision tests and CLIA waived testing. Documents all ordered test in the Electronic health record and prepares test results for review by the provider. Notifies the patients of test results as directed by the provider. Provides any other follow through as directed by the provider and documents patient interaction in the electronic health record. Provides necessary documentation of patient encounter forms. Assists the provider with procedures as directed. Triage patient phone calls, assess and determine the need for immediate medical care based on urgency of problem. Process refills based on facility protocol.
