About The Position

The RN Nurse Manager provides 24-hour leadership and operational oversight for Women’s Services—including Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Newborn Nursery. The Nurse Manager ensures high-quality, family-centered care consistent with professional standards, regulatory requirements, and NARMC values. This role emphasizes team development, patient safety, and program growth within obstetric and newborn care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN required, MSN preferred.
  • Five years of OB clinical experience with at least two years in a charge or leadership role.
  • Current Arkansas RN license.
  • BLS and NRP required; ACLS within six months; S.T.A.B.L.E. within one year.
  • AWHONN Fetal Monitoring course completion required per schedule.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of obstetric and neonatal physiology, fetal monitoring, and postpartum care.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient with EHR documentation and regulatory reporting systems.
  • Ability to promote teamwork and manage conflict effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Inpatient Obstetric Nursing (RNC-OB) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides day-to-day management and staffing oversight for OB, Postpartum, and Nursery units.
  • Maintains compliance with AWHONN nurse-to-patient ratio recommendations and hospital policies.
  • Leads initiatives in patient throughput, discharge efficiency, and patient satisfaction.
  • Ensures 24-hour accountability for departmental operations and staffing.
  • Oversees perinatal safety bundles (hemorrhage, hypertension, safe sleep, sepsis) and monitors related performance metrics.
  • Partners with medical staff and Quality to maintain compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, and ADH standards.
  • Reviews clinical data and patient outcomes to identify trends and implement corrective action.
  • Hires, mentors, and evaluates staff; builds a culture of accountability and engagement.
  • Oversees orientation, competency validation, and continuing education.
  • Ensures breastfeeding education aligns with Baby-Friendly USA standards and evidence-based practice.
  • Develops and monitors departmental budget.
  • Ensures fiscal integrity through accurate charge capture and efficient use of resources.
  • Collaborates with Finance and Nursing Administration on staffing and productivity management.
  • Leads perinatal quality improvement initiatives and prepares reports for state and federal programs.
  • Collaborates with OB, Pediatrics, Anesthesia, and ancillary services to ensure seamless maternal–infant care.
  • Participates in hospital committees and community outreach supporting women’s health.
