Requirements
- Accredited School of Nursing Required: Nursing
- Minimum one year required in an acute care facility or successful completion of a training course/orientation and standard competencies within six months of hire.
- Required: Registered Nurse
- Required: Upon Hire Basic Life Support
- Required: NIHSS within six months of hire or transfer date
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's Degree Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Preferred: Specialty certification
- Acute care and/or neurology experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs.
- Documents patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.
- Directs and delegates care to other team members in accordance with their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence.
- Ensures own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.
- Participates in the development of and maintains established hospital policies, procedures and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection prevention program.
- Essential Function: Nursing care of ischemic, TIAs, and non-traumatic hemorrhagic strokes. Performance of NIHSS, nursing bedside swallow screen. Perform stroke patient education utilizing health literacy education principles. Familiar with stroke guideline driven stroke discharge medications.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
