About The Position
The Mother Baby Care Unit at Troy Hospital is a 28-bed unit dedicated to caring for postpartum patients and newborns, with rotations within the maternal child health units including training. This state-of-the-art center focuses on advanced specialty and routine care, emphasizing patient satisfaction and medical advancement. The Registered Nurse (RN) operates under the ANA scope of practice, applying the nursing process to provide professional, patient-family centered care, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and discharge. The RN delivers quality patient care as directed by the Nurse Leader, adhering to Corewell Health policies and procedures, and acknowledges the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes. The RN collaborates with patients and families, incorporating their input and goals into the care plan, and develops and documents appropriate teaching strategies in the health record.
Requirements
- Associates or Diploma in Nursing Required
- Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years if new graduate/nurse with less than one (1) year experience
- Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination
- MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required
- AHA, ARC, or Canadian Heart and Stroke Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire/transfer
- NRP within 6 months of hire/transfer
- External candidates are required to have a minimum of 2 years of Mother Baby Care RN clinical experience
- External candidates must successfully complete a required competency assessment provided by Nursing Education
- Internal candidates with less than 2 years of Mother Baby Care RN clinical experience must be approved by their current nurse leader and the site Chief Nursing Officer and are to remain a unit-based PRN employee until they reach 2 years of nursing experience

Responsibilities
- Utilize the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge
- Provide quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures
- Recognize the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes
- Partner with and utilize patient/family input and goals in planning plan of care
- Develop teaching strategies for patient/family
- Document education and learning appropriately in health record
