About The Position

The Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse performs nursing functions within the scope of practice, providing and/or coordinating care and services to meet the residents’ physical, psychosocial, and functional care needs. This is a full-time, day-shift position involving three 12-hour shifts with no weekend work. The role encompasses communication with client support services and families, providing nursing care and monitoring for detox clients, and meticulous documentation of client vital signs. The nurse will conduct nursing assessments and consultations, ensuring all practices adhere to the scope of licensure, the state Nurse Practice Act, and HH clinical and administrative policies. Collaboration with the interdisciplinary team is crucial for defining individualized plans of care, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting professional nursing practices through teaching and role modeling. Key responsibilities also include medication administration, maintaining a comprehensive understanding of observation/assessment and documentation processes, utilizing electronic medical records for clinical documentation, observing patient status to assure quality care, coordinating with other patient services, and maintaining a safe environment. The nurse will oversee and direct certified staff, perform scheduled rounds, document patient progress and changes in condition, and support investigative protocols related to staff or patient incidents.

Requirements

  • Computer skills sufficient to access email, internet, and to document in client’s medical record.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • RN licensure in state of practice.
  • Graduate of an accredited/approved nursing school.
  • Must be CPR certified.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the workday.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds independently and occasionally more with assistance (e.g., moving patients or equipment).
  • Requires fine motor skills and hand–eye coordination to administer medications, operate medical equipment, and perform clinical procedures.
  • Adequate vision and hearing (with or without corrective devices) to monitor patient conditions, read charts, and respond to alarms or verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching when assisting patients or using equipment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions, emergencies, and high levels of responsibility.
  • Requires professionalism, empathy, and adaptability in stressful or emotional situations.

Responsibilities

  • Communication with client support services and families.

  • Practices nursing care within the scope of licensure and in accordance with the state Nurse Practice Act; Keeps a current active license; Follows state and federal licensure rules and regulations for the level of care in which they practice and in accordance with HH clinical and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team in defining individualized plans of care for each patient; Works closely with nursing leadership to ensure regulatory compliance; Promotes individual and team learning and provides teaching and role modeling of professional nursing practices to staff for quality clinical care.
  • Passes medication and/or oversees the medication ordering and administration process; Administers medications and treatments to residents; monitors administration of I.V. fluids, supplemental nourishments, and medications when ordered; I.V. certified nurses may initiate I.V. therapy.
  • Maintains a working knowledge and understanding of the observation/assessment and documentation process for the level of licensure in which they work, including care and service plans.
  • Utilizes the electronic medical record to capture full clinical documentation in accordance with policy and procedures.
  • Observes patient status as necessary to assure quality care; Coordinates with other patient services; Documents medical information and maintains detailed, timely, and accurate reports.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable, and functional environment by assessing potential hazards; Implements practices to maintain optimum safety.
  • Oversees and directs the certified staff and others assigned to ensure the standards of care and services are provided.
  • Performs rounds according to established schedule, Documents patient progress, changes in condition, etc.
  • Reports and supports investigative protocols as it relates to staff or patient incidents and/or accidents in accordance with state and federal regulations.
