About The Position

Overview RN - Infusion Allen Hospital - Waterloo, IA Day Shift, PRN- as needed 8am-5pm The Infusion Therapy nurse functions as an integral member of the patient care team by providing specialized direct nursing care to a specific group of patients with complex vascular access needs, including plans of care. The Infusion therapy nurse provides support and education to nursing staff regarding basic and complex vascular access needs, insertion protocols, vascular access procedures, and line care and maintenance. The infusion therapy nurse evaluates achievement of nursing outcomes related to safely obtaining and maintaining vascular access for patients, including documentation expectations, policy revisions, product selection and technology. Requirements

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Experience: One-year clinical nursing experience.
  • Experienced in IV
  • Licenses/Certifications: Current RN license
  • Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
  • BLS, PICC, and Chemo certification required within one year of hire.
  • Experience/Skills/Abilities: Desire and ability to teach
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving capability
  • Versed in INS standards
  • Other: Ability to flex hours as needed for off shift presence for staff support, competency validation, equipment, or product
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
  • Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH or area Nursing Home facilities.
  • Required to work rotating weekends, holidays, and cal l.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care Experienced in IV insertions, Midline Insertion, and PICC Insertion – inserts and maintains IV access as needed.
  • Consults as needed to identify vascular
  • Reviews vascular access related incident
  • Collaborates with infection prevention and safety officer for CLABSI review and
  • Collaborates and communicates with providers and pharmacy regarding infusion therapy.
  • Establish and Evaluate Quality Practice Assists in the management of infusion related complications, monitors outcomes and creates quality improvement initiatives.
  • Authors and updates vascular access and infusion therapy
  • Well versed in the Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice, INS, FDA, and CDC
  • Maintains evidence-based practice for vascular access, infusion therapy standards, and decision protocols.
  • May serve as a Finley affiliate representative for projects related to infusion therapy.
  • Manages Equipment, Supplies, and Technology related to IV Access Manages IV insertion and IV therapy
  • Manages and evaluates product go-lives for IV therapy such as the new BD products, safety devices, and insertion equipment and technology.
  • Works with Clinical leaders, informatics and staff for documentation and reporting efficiency.
