About The Position

The O.R. Staff Nurse provides professional nursing care to patients across the age spectrum within the Surgical Services Department and supervises and coordinates care planning with other disciplines. This position is represented by RCHEA. The RN II, Surgery (AHCL) adheres to the Corporate Compliance Code of Conduct and demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. This includes assessing patient data reflective of age-specific needs and interpreting it to provide necessary care/service, as well as demonstrating competency in areas such as pediatric vital signs and medication dosages, adolescent disease entities and self-image issues, and geriatric mobility, psycho-social/spiritual needs, and end-of-life issues.

Requirements

  • Receive all required vaccinations as a condition of employment and annually thereafter, where applicable.
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • All Patient Care personnel must be initially certified prior to patient care and recertified every two years in American Heart Association BLS.
  • ACLS - all registered nurses employed in Nursing Supervision, Med/Surg, Emergency Department, Perioperative Services and ICU must be initially certified within six months of employment and recertified every two years in ACLS.
  • PALS - all Registered Nurses in ER must be initially certified. Med/Surg, Perioperative Services and ICU must be initially certified within six months of employment and recertified every two years in PALS.
  • All BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP certified personnel are responsible for familiarizing themselves with the crash cart.
  • Has a current California RN license.

Nice To Haves

  • Credentials in area of practice preferred, such as CNOR, PANAC, and AAOPU for Outpatient.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care to patients across the age spectrum within the Surgical Services Department.
  • Supervise and coordinate care planning with other disciplines.
  • Adhere to the Corporate Compliance Code of Conduct.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/service appropriate to the age of the patients/individuals served.
  • Demonstrate and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients/individuals status and interpret relative to his age-specific needs, and to provide the care/service needed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills in regard to age-specific competency such as: Pediatrics differences in VSS and medication dosages; Adolescents specifics such as common disease entities and self-image issues; Geriatric needs in regard to mobility, Psycho-social/spiritual needs and death and dying issues.
  • Function as a scrub, circulating or float nurse in the operating room as assigned.
  • Maintain a professional, dignified atmosphere within the unit.
  • Maintain and meet expectations on time for all competencies, license, certifications and education requirements as outlined by local administration, Adventist Health (AH), The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and all other regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain established hospital-wide and departmental policies and procedures, departmental objectives.
  • Participate in site identification process and time out on each case.
  • Maintain Performance Improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Provide optimal physical and emotional environment for the patient.
  • Perform rotational assignments to PACU, Outpatient endoscopy Unit, and Central Service as assigned.
  • Share call duty as required.
  • Willingly perform other duties and innovations as assigned.
