The staff RN is a professional practitioner who functions as both a caregiver and care manager. In the caregiver role, the RN assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated period implementing the Nursing Process and therapeutic use of self. In the dominant role of care manager, the RN directs and oversees the care of other caregivers (nurses and non-nurses) via delegation, coordination, supervision, validation, and evaluation. The Rheumatology nurse travels to outreach clinics in support of the physician. The Rheumatology nurse should be proficient in the prior authorization process. The Rheumatology nurse will work closely with the Infusion Clinic and the Prior Authorization team. The Rheumatology nurse will take the lead in coordination of care with regard to imaging, laboratory testing, medication infusion, and communication between departments. The Rheumatology nurse will manage inventory for joint injections/aspirations, and will be responsible for assembling joint aspiration/injection kits for the physician.
