As an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients. This role involves following policies and procedures, demonstrating the ability to access online manuals and references, and transferring scientific knowledge into practical application within the nursing process. Key duties include completing nursing assessments and screenings, interpreting assessment information to formulate nursing diagnoses, and maintaining patient records such as problem lists, medication lists, and allergies. The RN administers medications, completes patient care procedures, delegates tasks appropriately, and acts as a patient advocate. The position requires complete and correct documentation for all patient encounters, providing patient and family education, and maintaining equipment like B/P machines. Effective communication with the healthcare team, patients, and families is essential, including triaging phone calls and utilizing email. The RN is expected to manage time effectively, organize and prioritize responsibilities, and observe regulatory agency requirements such as National Patient Safety Goals, HIPPA, OSHA, and JCAHO standards. The role also involves participating in quality measures, professional development activities, and assisting in the development of patient education materials. Additionally, the RN assesses a patient’s understanding of diagnostic procedures, plans testing/treatment in coordination with physicians, assists with cardiac diagnostic procedures in the Non-Invasive Cardiology Lab, and educates patients/families about procedures and treatments.
