About The Position

The RN Coordinator is a member of the care delivery team. The RN Coordinator is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The RN Coordinator has responsibility, authority and accountability for the provision of nursing care. The RN Coordinator manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members. The role of the RN Coordinator encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision. The RN Coordinator establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The RN Coordinator demonstrates a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current RN Licensure, either Texas or Compact is required.
  • BLS, ACLS and PALS (ER only) are required.
  • 3 – 5 years of clinical experience
  • supervisor experience is strongly preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • ENPC and TNCC are preferred for ER.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and guidance to staff in goal setting, problem solving, resource management and outcome achievement.
  • Meets performance objectives and metrics for the department, mentors and assesses the level of competence of staff in a timely manner.

  • Assures staff follows the standards of care set by State Board of Nursing, State Nurse Practice Act and other governing agency requirements.
  • Incorporates quality improvement data, patient satisfaction data into departmental goals and organizational safety.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of regulations applicable to patient care and/or other department functions.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform specific competencies as listed on the competency validation form.
  • Follows the hospital exposure control plans for blood borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Communicates with peer and management any safety hazards identified in the workplace.
  • Delivers nursing care to assigned group of patients including education directed towards identified knowledge deficits, treatment planning, pain management and discharge planning utilizing the nursing process.
  • Anticipates deteriorating life sign patterns or equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate action.
  • Collaborate with Nursing Leaders in development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization and nursing standards.
  • Assist with the orientation program for nursing staff, identifies the needs and recommends staff development and education programs.
  • Assist with the design and implantation of curriculum for clinical competence of staff and maintain ongoing evaluations of staff competencies.
  • Assist Nursing Leadership on recruitment, interviews, selection/hiring, and staff retention.
  • Conducts concurrent audits of patient care records to determine documentation compliance and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Participates in the monitoring and evaluation of patient care utilizing the Quality Assurance process and utilizes quality improvements.
  • Assist with departmental and hospital Performance Improvement Plan.
  • Assist in the management of a comprehensive program to ensure The Joint Commission standards are met.
  • Checks availability and assures equipment is in good working condition and reports findings.
  • Collaborates and communicates with supply coordinator regarding department supply needs.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
  • Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information as observed by peers and management.
  • Attends all mandatory education programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety and regulatory compliance
