About The Position

This position involves planning, coordinating, and implementing care for adult patients in the Cardiac Cath Lab. The role ensures that quality care is provided efficiently and safely, consistent with unit standards, and requires demonstrating competency skills appropriate to the clinical area. Key responsibilities include performing as a circulator, scrub, or monitor on the Cath Lab procedure team, preparing patients in the holding area, and ensuring timely access to necessary patient information like history and physicals. The RN will utilize critical judgment for patient assessment, administer medications, report abnormal findings to physicians, and perform hemostasis safely. Additionally, the role involves managing patient orders and charges, providing care for critically ill patients independently in stressful situations, and educating patients and families about procedures and treatments.

Requirements

• Graduate of accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing
• No experience required.
• Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
• Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
• Advanced Life Support (ALS) - American Heart Association (AHA) Or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association (AHA)

Responsibilities

• Performs on the Cath Lab procedure team as circulator, scrub, or monitor.
• Performs in holding by ensuring patient is correctly prepped for the procedure.
• Ensures needed information, such as history and physical (H&P), is timely.
• Utilizes critical judgment to analyze patient assessment and administers medications on all patients, including the critically ill patient and reports abnormal information to the physician in a timely manner.
• Performs hemostasis safely and properly with or without vascular devices.
• Routinely enters patient orders and charges.
• Checks charges to ensure accuracy.
• Provides care of the critically ill patient with the ability to function independently in a stressful situation.
• Routinely educates patients and families based on assessed needs, documents education provided, and keeps them informed of tests and treatments.
• Provides clear patient instruction on what to expect during the perioperative procedure.
• Assists families to the cardiology area or Cath lab area by escorting when necessary.
• May perform point of care testing according to policies and procedures.
• Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
