About The Position

Provides direct resident care and administers medications as directed. Reports to Charge Nurse, Director of Nursing/Resident Health Services, and Administrator. Performs all duties in compliance with established facility policy and scope of practice.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Current, valid State approved Registered Medication Aide certification or completion of approved training, with certification to be received within 90 days of hire, to include one of the following:
  • Completion of state approved PCA (Personal Care Aide) with documentation, or
  • CAN (Certified Nurse Aide) certification issued by the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
  • Current, valid CPR certification.
  • Complete four (4) hours of training annually as required by the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with residents/patients, staff, and family members.
  • Must exhibit patience and a positive attitude towards the elderly population and a desire to provide a service to the community.
  • Intuitive, creative thinker.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, bend, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently (up to 66% of the time spent in performance of duties) and up to 35 pounds occasionally (up to 33% of the time spent in performance of duties).
  • Manual dexterity that allows grasping, carrying, and holding equipment and supplies for resident care as needed to perform tasks.
  • Ability to see, hear, and verbally communicate with residents, visitors, staff members, and other contacts during performance of duties.

Responsibilities

  • Administer medications per physician order on Medication Administration Record, according to established facility policy and within the scope of practice outlines in the current regulations as approved by the Virginia Department of Health Professionals.
  • Provide care for and assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) to residents as needed or directed, including but not limited to bathing, dressing, feeding, personal hygiene, toileting, positioning, and mobility while taking all necessary measures to ensure the highest level of comfort, dignity, and safety to the resident at all times.
  • Report any changes in condition, including any evidence of skin breakdown or wounds, incidents, accidents, and unusual events to supervisor immediately.
  • Obtain vital signs and record as directed.
  • Review Daily Assignments at the start of each shift, noting any change in care of transfer status.
  • Promptly record all care provided, using electronic medical record or paper chart as appropriate.
  • Prepare residents for meals and/or snacks, transporting to and from dining area as needed.
  • Assist with serving, identify food arrangement for sensory impaired residents, and assist with feeding as needed.
  • Record food and fluid intake for each meal and/or snack as appropriate.
  • Perform after-meal resident care.
  • Maintain tidiness and comfort in resident rooms, reducing clutter and trip/fall hazards.
  • Know, understand, and follow established safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures at all times.
  • Welcome each new resident to help ensure a comfortable transition.
  • Communicate with and engage residents in activities and conversation.
  • Conform to and perform duties in accordance with established facility policies and procedures, Department of Health Professions guidelines, and in compliance with federal and state regulations governing the operation of Assisted Living facilities.
  • Attend and/or complete in-service training education and training as directed by facility policy, regulation, and/or supervisor.
  • Assist with transporting residents to and from activities, Beauty Shop appointments, and other locations within the facility as needed or as requested.
  • Maintain tidiness and limit clutter in social and dining areas to ensure comfort and safety.
  • Attend departmental and staff meetings and participate in in-service training, committees, or workgroups as needed or as directed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
