About The Position

Merrick & Company, an employee-owned international Engineering and Architectural firm, is seeking a Risk Manager to work at our headquarters in Greenwood Village, Colorado. A hybrid schedule will be supported. Annual salary range for this position is $125,000 - $155,000. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience. WHAT YOU'LL DO Strategic Risk Leadership Lead enterprise-wide risk management initiatives, including development and implementation of long-term risk mitigation and transfer strategies. Serve as a senior advisor on contractual risk matters, guiding project teams and leadership on complex negotiations and risk exposure. Insurance Program Oversight Direct the structure, renewal, and optimization of Merrick’s corporate insurance program, including broker and carrier relationships. Lead high-level presentations and negotiations with underwriters, ensuring alignment with corporate risk appetite and coverage needs. Evaluate emerging risks and recommend insurance solutions to address evolving exposures. Regulatory & Compliance Management Ensure full compliance with licensing, certifications, and regulatory requirements across all jurisdictions. Oversee the accuracy and timeliness of SAM registrations, client representations and certifications, small business reporting, and other compliance submissions, ensuring strategic alignment and data integrity. Monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact on corporate risk posture. Reporting & Analytics Lead the development of risk-related reports and dashboards for executive leadership. Analyze risk trends and provide actionable insights to inform decision-making. Stakeholder Engagement Build and maintain strategic relationships with clients, regulators, insurers, and internal stakeholders. Represent Merrick in external risk forums, industry groups, and regulatory discussions. Mentor and guide junior and mid-level staff in risk management practices and professional development. Communication & Influence Communicate complex risk concepts to executive leadership, legal counsel, and external stakeholders and serve as a corporate spokesperson on risk and insurance matters with clients, regulators, and industry groups. Build trust across all levels of the organization and externally through transparency, credibility, and strategic insight, treating all information as sensitive and in a confidential manner. Facilitate alignment between legal, operational, and financial teams on risk-related decisions. Enterprise Risk & Contract Strategy Design and govern enterprise-wide risk management frameworks and contract governance models. Lead cross-functional risk assessments and contract audits to identify systemic vulnerabilities. Develop and implement strategic risk transfer mechanisms, including innovative insurance solutions. Oversee integration of contract and risk management systems with enterprise platforms (e.g., ERP, ). Advise executive leadership on emerging risk trends and regulatory changes impacting business strategy. Leadership, Innovation & Organizational Impact Drive continuous improvement in contract and risk processes through data, technology, and change leadership. Lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams, including legal, finance, and operations staff, championing a culture of accountability, resilience, and ethical decision-making. Shape organizational policy on risk, compliance, and insurance using industry expertise and benchmarking. Represent Merrick in industry forums, regulatory consultations, and strategic client engagements.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited risk management and insurance school or bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Ten years of insurance industry experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Business-oriented mindset with the ability to align legal and risk strategies with organizational goals.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on claims, underwriting, and coverage lines
  • CRMP, ARM, or other risk-related certification
  • Experience working for or with construction contractors or engineers/architects.
  • Familiarity with contract lifecycle management systems and legal technology tools.
