The Opportunity We are seeking an accomplished and forward‑thinking Risk Analyst Lead – AI Risk Management to play a critical leadership role in the execution and orchestration of enterprise‑wide AI risk assessments. This role sits at the center of USAA’s AI risk management program and is responsible for coordinating risk assessments across AI use cases, partnering closely with Second Line oversight teams (including Information Security, Data Governance, and other independent risk functions), as well as Compliance and Legal partners. The successful candidate will ensure AI risks are consistently identified, assessed, documented, and raised in alignment with established governance frameworks. In addition to assessment execution, this role will be responsible for aggregating risk assessment outcomes and translating them into meaningful insights and reporting for senior leadership, governance committees, and potential board‑level reporting. This includes transforming assessment results into structured data, identifying trends across AI use cases, and informing risk‑based decision making. The Risk Analyst Lead will also mentor and guide junior team members, support third‑party risk due diligence reviews aligned to model governance requirements and implement oversight assessments of first‑line teams performing Model/AI‑related due diligence. A strong background in Model Risk Management and Third‑Party Risk Management is highly preferred to enable effective challenge and oversight across the AI lifecycle. We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, or Charlotte, NC Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, or a related field. 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • 8 years of risk management, regulatory or operations experience in a relevant functional area to include banking, insurance, financial services, audit, project management, public accounting or other related operational area. Or advanced degree/designation in Risk Management, Business, Finance, or other field relevant to risk management and 6 years of work experience in a subject area relevant to risk management.
  • Knowledge of risk management principles, tools and applicable systems.
  • Risk management experience in a complex institution and/or highly matrixed environment.
  • Experience in conflict resolution management and ability to challenge at all levels of management and influence business outcomes.
  • Ability to work with both internal and external partners in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Critical thinking and knowledge of data analysis tools and techniques and decision-making abilities, to include the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Proactively identifies potential concerns and follows-up to resolve issues.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • AI/GenAI Risk Management: Direct experience with Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI, including a strong understanding of emerging risks, ethical considerations, and the relevant regulatory landscape.
  • Strategic Prioritization & Timeline Management:Ability to prioritize key partners and ensure that projects remain on schedule through strategic engagement and prioritization.
  • Assessment Orchestration: Direct experience leading or coordinating assessments across multiple partners, such as technology risk, compliance, legal, and business partners.
  • Cross‑Functional Organizational Engagement: Ability to workwith other functions such as Information Security, Data Governance, Model Risk, Compliance, and Legal to drive consistent and timely risk outcomes in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Model Risk Management & Governance Expertise: Strong background in model governance, validation practices, lifecycle governance, and alignment to internal and regulatory expectations. Prior experience with FRB SR11-7 is highly preferred.
  • Third‑Party Risk Management Experience: Hands‑on experience performing or coordinating third‑party risk due diligence assessments, including review of questionnaires and execution of independent oversight over first‑line assessments.
  • Risk Aggregation & Reporting: Ability to synthesize individual risk assessments into aggregated insights, metrics, and themes that can be communicated to governance forums, committees, and executive leadership.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Experience leading workstreams and mentoring less‑experienced professionals, setting clear expectations, and elevating the quality and consistency of execution.
  • Executive Communication: Strong ability to translate complex technical and regulatory risk information into clear, concise messaging tailored for senior leaders and board‑level audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and seeks key partners across the enterprise to support the identification, assessment, aggregation and the overall management of risks and controls.
  • Presents findings and recommendations to various levels of leadership.
  • Routinely communicates results of risk assessments to governance committees, business process owners and various levels of leadership and influences decision making.
  • Develops process and procedures for successful implementation of new risk policies, practices, appetites and solutions to ensure multidisciplinary understanding and management of risks according to industry standard process.
  • Develops strategies, tools, and methodologies to measure, monitor, and report risks.
  • Applies expert knowledge to use or produce analytical material for discussions with cross functional teams to understand business objectives and influence solution strategies.
  • Leads, assembles and facilitates cross-functional teams to identify, assess, aggregate and mitigate current and emerging risk events.
  • Serves as the point of contact for senior risk leadership on projects and special management requests that often impact the enterprise or core operating area.
  • Formulates and reviews stress test plans for a line of business or the enterprise.
  • Evaluates results, and frames contingency plans in partnership with key business partners.
  • Crafts key communications to be delivered to executives and board members.
