Responsibilities: Learn to use common hand tools and apply basic math and geometry to rigging practices Support other apprentices, journeyman, and foreman on various projects Follow instructions from foreman and/or supervisors to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and safely Keep the job site clean and well-organized Handle the loading and unloading of materials, tools, and equipment Ensure attention to detail and follow safety standards Fuel and wash department vehicles Gain essential rigging skills to progress within the Mobile Crew Department Requirements: Mechanically inclined with common hand tools (tape measure, power drills, screwdrivers, etc.) Basic math & geometry knowledge Ability to work effectively with all personality types. Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions. Self-directed and can work independently Valid driver’s license Preferred Requirements: Assist with the positioning of chain falls, hoists, blocks, rope, jacks, chains and rigging as directed by the Rigger Proper application of hitch types Complete pre-use inspections, understand limitations, practices, and hazards associated with slings, rigging hardware and below-the hook lifting devices Ensuring the weight of the load and its approximate center of gravity have been obtained, provided, or calculated Ensure load weight estimation has been obtained, provided, or calculated Understand the effects of angles on rigging components Select appropriate type of size of slings, clamps, clevises, wires, ropes, cables, pulleys, sheaves, blocks, jacks, chains, etc. according to the load weight and plan based on how it needs to be moved, lifted or placed Capable of reading and interpretating a rigging plan to rig a load properly and safely Attaching rigging to a load based upon a pre-planned rigging method Rigger 1 certified & qualified Stick (Arc) welding Lock-out – Tag-out Chauffeur License / DOT Med card Equipment/Tool experience: Aerial – Lift Operation – Boom Lift (Preferred) Aerial – Lift Operation – Scissor Lift (Preferred) Forklift Operation – Material handling up to 5000# (Preferred) Telehandler (Preferred) Trailer loading and securing of material & equipment (Preferred) Overhead crane certified & qualified (Preferred) Physical Requirements: Must be able to ascend/descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and/or operate scissor/boom lifts while working at height. Work in permit & non-permit required confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment. Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move up to 50 pounds regularly/occasionally Must be able to respond quickly to auditory alarms, visual signals, or other effective means to communicate hazards Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces. Must be able to work in cold/hot environments. Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.
