The Apprentice Engineer is responsible for supporting maintenance and operations staff in the safe and efficient upkeep of the facility. This role involves hands-on assistance with equipment care, cleaning tasks, and training for progression into more advanced roles such as Auxiliary Engineer. The Apprentice Engineer will gain exposure to plant systems and procedures, gradually taking on more independent responsibilities as skills and knowledge develop.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Prior experience in a resource recovery facility or industrial setting preferred
  • Demonstrated interest and motivation to learn plant systems and progress toward Auxiliary Engineer role
  • Willingness and flexibility to work overtime, including weekends and emergency call-ins
  • Ability to follow instructions, work safely, and perform physical tasks in an industrial environment

Responsibilities

  • Grease and lubricate facility equipment as directed
  • Replace light bulbs and perform other routine maintenance tasks
  • Assist Maintenance Technicians, Auxiliary Engineers, and Water Systems Operators with daily activities
  • Clean facility areas and equipment to maintain operational and safety standards
  • Perform general housekeeping duties throughout the plant
  • Train on the job to support progression into Maintenance or Auxiliary Engineering roles
  • Attend required union training and participate in company-sponsored development programs
  • Complete minor tasks independently and grow in responsibility as skills improve
  • Work scheduled and unscheduled overtime as needed to support operations and maintenance demands
