SUMMARY: Sexual Assault Forensic Examiners (SAFEs) are Registered Nurses and Advanced Practice Providers who complete additional education and training to provide comprehensive health care to survivors of sexual assault. SAFEs will be mission driven with a commitment to participating in SAFE on call and emergency response care at all Brown University Health Emergency Departments. SAFEs will collaborate with medical providers in the hospital setting to provide trauma informed, patient centered and equitable medical care, forensic evidence collection, community resource referrals and advocacy that meets the best practice standards established by the US Department of Justice. SAFEs will additionally be prepared to testify in a criminal or civil trial as a fact or expert witness when necessary.
