About The Position

QTEC Aerospace is seeking an RF ENGINEER to join our team of professionals in Huntsville, AL. The qualified applicant will become part of a team of professionals representing both industry and government. The successful candidate will be detail oriented, have a proven track record and a positive work ethic. Job Summary QTEC Aerospace is looking for highly capable and motivated individuals. The successful candidate will function as an integral member of a multi-contractor team providing program, engineering, and technical support to Missile Defense programs. The selected Engineer will serve as a senior technical contributor supporting a ground station modernization effort transitioning from legacy parabolic antenna architecture to an advanced phased array communications system. This role is not a hands-on hardware design position, but rather a technically rigorous systems and integration role responsible for guiding supplier development, ensuring compliance with requirements, and managing technical risk across the program lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience supporting RF and/or communications systems development, integration, or test within a complex engineering or acquisition environment
  • Demonstrated experience working with hardware development programs, including the ability to review and assess supplier designs, technical documentation, and performance data without direct ownership of detailed hardware design
  • Strong understanding of antenna theory and communications system fundamentals (e.g., EVM, Modulation / Demodulation, FEC), including modem architecture, digital signal processing concepts, RF front-end components, and board-level integration considerations
  • Working knowledge of board-level electrical issues, including power & signal integrity, EMI/EMC considerations, grounding, and shielding, with the ability to identify risks and assess mitigation approaches
  • Experience applying systems engineering principles, including requirements development and flow-down, interface definition, verification and validation, configuration control, and technical risk management
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex system-level issues by analyzing hardware, software, and RF interactions, coordinating root-cause investigations with suppliers and cross-functional teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including customer-facing briefings and participation in formal technical reviews
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment, exercising sound technical judgment with minimal oversight
  • Self-motivated and customer-oriented
  • Candidates must currently have and be able to maintain a minimum DoD SECRET level security clearance.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with 12 years of related experience with a focus on RF, communications systems, or electromagnetics; Master of Science in Electrical Engineering with 10 years of related experience; Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with 8 years of related experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in developing phased array antenna systems or ground station architectures, particularly in both static and transportable configurations
  • Familiarity with system and sub-system EMI/EMC qualification and compliance activities, including review of test plans, analysis of test results, and evaluation of design or integration mitigations
  • Experience guiding external suppliers through board-level integration, system bring-up, and troubleshooting activities during development and tests
  • Working knowledge of space, satellite communications, or ground terminal systems, including RF link performance considerations and operational constraints
  • Experience participating in or leading formal program reviews such as PDR, CDR, TRR, and customer technical interchange meetings (TIMs)
  • Background in government or defense acquisition programs, including exposure to requirements-driven development, verification documentation, and customer acceptance processes
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and mitigate technical risk across hardware, software, and RF interfaces while balancing cost, schedule, and performance

Responsibilities

  • Provide end-to-end technical oversight across the RF / Communications signal chain, from the modem through the RF front end and antenna subsystem
  • Support requirements development and flow-down, review architecture and interface definitions, evaluate integration approaches, and assess verification of test plans and results
  • Leverage prior hardware development experience to assess design trades, evaluate architectures, and ensure delivered solutions meet performance, reliability, and integration objectives
  • Regular customer-facing engagement, requiring briefings to communicate technical progress, system performance status, support requirements, test, and architectural discussions with stakeholders
  • Translate complex technical information into clear, actionable insights for both internal leadership and the MDA customer
