Position Overview The Lead Electronics Repair Technician (Rework Lead) is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supporting and guiding daily electronics repair operations. This position combines advanced board-level repair, component-level troubleshooting, and schematic interpretation with day-to-day team leadership. This role is ideal for a highly skilled technician who leads by example, helps prioritize workflow, mentors team members, and ensures consistent repair quality and production throughput.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (Associate degree preferred)
  • 3+ years of electronics repair or electronics manufacturing experience
  • Strong soldering and rework skills (SMT and through-hole)
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot to the component level
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and technical documentation
  • Basic leadership or mentoring experience
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
  • Experience using rework stations, hot air systems, microscopes, and working with fine-pitch components
  • Proficiency with test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Ability to sit for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day)
  • Ability to walk throughout the facility as needed
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs

Nice To Haves

  • IPC certification or prior IPC standards experience
  • Experience in a production-driven or high-mix repair environment

Responsibilities

  • Perform board-level repairs on electronic assemblies using advanced soldering and rework techniques (SMT, through-hole, fine-pitch, connectors, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot electronic assemblies to the component and circuit level using schematics, documentation, and diagnostic equipment
  • Read and interpret schematics, BOMs, and work instructions to diagnose failures and implement corrective repairs
  • Verify completed repairs through functional testing and detailed visual inspection
  • Provide daily technical guidance and support to repair technicians
  • Assist in prioritizing repair workload to meet production schedules and quality targets
  • Train and mentor technicians on proper soldering techniques, ESD handling, and workmanship standards
  • Document repair activities, failure modes, and corrective actions accurately
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to resolve recurring issues
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and ESD-compliant work environment
