About The Position

The Opportunity: This is a unique leadership opportunity to work at a globally recognized, social impact organization that is changing the world for the good of all. The Revenue Leader at Ashoka, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) & Change Leader with guidance from the CEO, has responsibility for overseeing all revenue-generating activities, including earned income streams as well as support for fundraising development. While Ashoka leaders for countries, regions, and programs have primary responsibility for securing revenue for their activities, the Revenue Leader will provide leadership for enterprise-level strategy, coordination, and major gifts. The Revenue Leader will also play a role in the organization’s emerging commercialization activities. The Revenue Leader will be an organizational change leader, developing and implementing strategies to increase revenue, ensuring alignment among all revenue-generating teams, and foster a culture of collaboration. The Revenue Leader also plays a key role in building strong relationships with donors, partners, and other stakeholders. The Revenue Leader will create and maintain enduring partnerships with the CFO, senior leadership, program leaders and teams, country leaders and teams as well as with Framework Change (strategies for the future) and ITI (IT and systems). In essence, the Revenue Leader is a strategic leader responsible for maximizing the organization’s potential for financial sustainability by maximizing revenue generation and fostering enduring relationships with key stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • At least 15 years of experience in social sector fundraising, development, or marketing/ sales; experience with global networks is a plus
  • Experience working with the private sector on partnerships and revenue or support arrangements
  • Deep experience across multiple countries and regions of the world
  • Proven track record of success in securing diverse revenue streams
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Deep understanding of nonprofit fundraising strategies and processes
  • Financial acumen and knowledge of social sector finance
  • Entrepreneurial Quality: Compelled to take creative initiative and ownership (e.g. founding an organization or company, starting a movement, or re-shaping the work of an existing organization). Demonstrates relentless and realistic how-to-thinking and passion for seeing their ideas come to life.
  • Understanding and Belief in the Everyone a Changemaker: Understands and believes the Everyone a Changemaker vision at a gut level. To be able to innately ‘get’ this, candidates should have a broad and inquisitive intellectual and a thinking pattern that connects the dots between historical trends and current social context.

Responsibilities

  • Revenue Strategy and Planning: Develop and execute comprehensive revenue strategies aligned with the organization's mission and goals. This includes identifying new revenue opportunities, diversifying funding sources, and optimizing existing revenue streams. It also includes serving as the enterprise-wide organizer for cross-cutting gifts as well as organizing and supporting local and team-level fundraising efforts.
  • Relationship Management: Build and nurture strategic relationships with Ashoka senior leadership, fellows, clients, customers, donors, funders, and other key stakeholders for the purposes of increasing engagement and support of Ashoka.
  • Functional Alignment: Ensure alignment and collaboration among fundraising, marketing, communications, and program teams to maximize revenue generation.
  • Performance Management: Set ambitious but achievable revenue targets, monitoring key performance indicators (OKRs), and implementing strategies to improve revenue performance.
  • Team Leadership and Capacity Building: Regularly review, recommend, and direct the implementation of policies, practices, staffing, and resources that foster organization-wide revenue generation. Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to other revenue generators.
  • Financial Acumen: Share a strong understanding of social sector finance, budgeting, and financial reporting to build global capacity.
  • Innovation and Problem-Solving: Identify and implement innovative approaches to revenue generation and effectively address challenges and roadblocks.
  • Fundraising and Development: Oversee all fundraising efforts, including major gifts, annual campaigns, grant writing, and corporate partnerships as well as process and stewardship standards.
