About The Position

OpenAI Finance ensures the organization is positioned for long-term success as we pursue our mission. The Revenue team plays a critical role in enabling OpenAI to scale its commercial offerings — overseeing billing operations, deal desk, revenue systems, and revenue accounting. We work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Go-To-Market teams to support evolving commercial strategies, improve operational efficiency, and maintain financial integrity as the business grows. We are looking for a Revenue Accounting Senior Manager to own a high-impact special projects swim lane focused on some of OpenAI’s most strategic and complex growth initiatives, including M&A, and global partnership structures. This is an individual contributor role within Revenue Accounting with significant visibility across Controllership, Strategic Finance, Legal, GTM, and executive leadership. This role serves as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for revenue accounting outcomes across these initiatives, ensuring scalable, compliant, and operationally sound revenue reporting. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants broad exposure across technical accounting, commercial deal support, systems design, and strategic business partnership—the “best of both worlds” between deep accounting and high-impact business transformation.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in Revenue Accounting, Technical Accounting, Big 4, or high-growth technology environments.
  • Deep knowledge of ASC 606 and strong judgment across complex revenue models.
  • Experience supporting strategic partnerships, new business models, M&A integrations, or international expansion.
  • Strong executive presence with ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and simplify complex accounting topics for non-accountants.
  • Builder mindset with strong operational rigor and ability to drive ambiguous workstreams to clear outcomes.
  • Experience in high-growth environments with strong bias for action and ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Revenue Accounting DRI for strategic initiatives including M&A integrations, and complex partnership arrangements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Technical Accounting, Strategic Finance, Legal, Tax, Product, GTM, and Deal Desk to design compliant revenue solutions that support business growth.
  • Assess new commercial models, partnership structures, and contract terms for ASC 606 implications, principal vs. agent considerations, gross vs. net presentation, and revenue disclosure impacts.
  • Drive operational readiness for new launches, including process design, systems requirements, controls, and close readiness.
  • Support diligence, integration planning, and post-close execution for acquisitions with a focus on revenue recognition, customer contracts, and reporting implications.
  • Lead revenue reporting conclusions and executive-level communication for these workstreams, ensuring alignment across stakeholders and auditors.
  • Identify opportunities to improve automation, scalability, and controllership readiness as the business expands globally.
