About The Position

A large public-sector organization is seeking a detail-oriented Retirement System Operations Specialist I to support its Customer Benefits team. This role focuses on processing retirement and benefits-related transactions, maintaining member records, and assisting with customer inquiries. This is a full-time, fully remote contract opportunity ideal for candidates with administrative, benefits, or customer support experience who are comfortable working in a structured, compliance-driven environment. This is a temporary assignment.

Requirements

  • Completion of at least 30 college credit hours (relevant experience may substitute).
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in general office, accounting, benefits, or payroll functions.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience using a computer to research and retrieve information.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in processing documents.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment with structured supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Process retirement applications and approve retirements across multiple service categories.
  • Research, verify, and process retirement account withdrawals.
  • Research, verify, and process beneficiary designations.
  • Respond to member inquiries and provide support related to retirement and benefits programs.
  • Maintain and update member records and track interactions in internal systems.
  • Assist members by explaining benefit programs and available options.
  • Prepare standard correspondence related to retirement and benefits.
  • Review, scan, and upload documents, ensuring proper workflow routing.
  • Maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
  • Perform administrative and program support tasks as assigned.
