About The Position

A large public-sector organization is seeking a detail-oriented Retirement System Operations Specialist I to support its Customer Benefits team. This role focuses on processing retirement and benefits-related transactions, maintaining member records, and assisting with customer inquiries. This is a full-time, fully remote contract opportunity ideal for candidates with administrative, benefits, or customer support experience who are comfortable working in a structured, compliance-driven environment. This is a temporary assignment.

Requirements

Completion of at least 30 college credit hours (relevant experience may substitute).
Minimum one (1) year of experience in general office, accounting, benefits, or payroll functions.
Minimum one (1) year of experience using a computer to research and retrieve information.
Minimum one (1) year of experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in processing documents.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment with structured supervision.

Responsibilities

Process retirement applications and approve retirements across multiple service categories.
Research, verify, and process retirement account withdrawals.
Research, verify, and process beneficiary designations.
Respond to member inquiries and provide support related to retirement and benefits programs.
Maintain and update member records and track interactions in internal systems.
Assist members by explaining benefit programs and available options.
Prepare standard correspondence related to retirement and benefits.
Review, scan, and upload documents, ensuring proper workflow routing.
Maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
Perform administrative and program support tasks as assigned.
