About The Position

The Retail Supervisor serves as the on-floor leader responsible for daily operations and performance across the various key retail areas within the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. This role oversees a multi-location retail environment within a high-volume cultural institution, combining hands-on leadership, revenue accountability, and operational execution. The Supervisor maintains a visible presence across all retail areas, leads associates, volunteers, and interns, and ensures consistent service, sales performance, and operational standards. This position plays a critical role in achieving revenue goals while delivering a mission-aligned, high-quality visitor experience. Must be able to work weekends (both Saturday and Sunday) and a flexible work schedule including mornings and evening shifts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent supervisory experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory or management experience in retail or museum retail environments required.
  • Demonstrated success driving sales and team performance.
  • Experience managing cash-intensive operations.
  • Strong POS and systems proficiency; knowledge of Counterpoint a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead in fast-paced, multi-location environments.
  • Strong command of English; additional language proficiency a plus.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods.

  • Visual merchandising experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Multi-Location Retail Operations Oversees daily operations across the 9/11 Memorial Museum Store, Café, Audio Guide Desk, and Carts on the Memorial Plaza.
  • Executes opening and closing procedures, ensuring financial accuracy and operational readiness.
  • Maintains compliance with all organizational policies and retail standards.
  • Partners with management to address operational challenges and implement process improvements.
  • Revenue & Performance Accountability Drives sales performance through active floor leadership and KPI monitoring.
  • Reviews hourly sales metrics and adjusts engagement strategies to support revenue goals.
  • Ensures consistent communication of merchandise promotions and product stories.
  • Ensures staff consistently ask guests for donations at checkout in support of institutional initiatives.
  • Supports profit goals through inventory awareness and loss prevention practices.
  • Leadership & Staff Development Supervises associates, volunteers, and interns, ensuring appropriate coverage and productivity.
  • Leads daily pre-shift meetings to communicate priorities, promotions, and performance expectations.
  • Provides real-time coaching to strengthen service standards and sales behaviors.
  • Oversees onboarding and training in POS systems, guest engagement, product knowledge, and operational procedures.
  • Financial & POS Oversight Oversees high-volume cash handling, including safe counts, drawer reconciliation, change orders, deposits, and reporting.
  • Ensures accurate processing of all payment types in accordance with financial policies.
  • Troubleshoots POS and payment system issues in coordination with IT.
  • Upholds strong financial controls and accountability standards.
  • Inventory & Visual Execution Maintains stock levels and merchandising standards across all retail locations and carts.
  • Oversees receiving, processing, and placement of incoming merchandise.
  • Assists with physical inventory counts and ongoing stock audits.
  • Ensures retail spaces remain clean, organized, and presentation-ready.
