About The Position

The incumbent is expected to work in accordance with the mission, purpose, and values of the Colusa Indian Community Council. Responsible for providing customer service and accurately processing transactions. Provide customer service by welcoming customers, answering their questions, and helping them find what they are looking for. Process transactions accurately and efficiently using a cash register and other payment processing equipment. Maintain an organized and clean retail store environment by stocking shelves, cleaning displays, and ensuring merchandise is properly priced and labeled. Assist with inventory management by receiving and tracking shipments, performing stock checks, and identifying inventory discrepancies. Communicate with store management and team members to ensure a cohesive working environment. Participate in promotional events and sales to increase store visibility and customer traffic. Adhere to all organization policies and procedures, including safety and security protocols. The EDC has the following retail stores—Wintun Mini-Mart (gas station) and smoke shop. For incumbents working in Wintun Mini-Mart, they will be responsible for preparing and cooking a range of food items including snacks, hot meals, and sandwiches. Ensure that all food is prepared to standards according to customer preferences and dietary requirements. Maintain high levels of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen. Follow all food safety procedures, including handling and storing food correctly. Order and manage inventory of food ingredients and supplies. Ensure that all cooking equipment is clean and in good working order. The current vacancy is at Smokey River Tobacco Shop (Wintun Mini-Mart) for a regular, part-time position. The store hours are 7-days a week, 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Three (3) months of related experience and/or training desired.
  • Must be 18 years of age, at the time of appointment.
  • Must be 21 years of age, at the time of appointment, for those working in Retail shops (e.g., smoke Shop) that sell tobacco-only products (including cigarettes, cigars, e-cigarettes).

  • Properly uses time clock, signs a timecard verifying all hours worked at the end of the pay period
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all accidents immediately
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to guests and other team members
  • Ability to add and subtract in order to make change, complete pay point reports, and account for numbers of a variety of products during vendor check-in
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and quantity
  • Cash counting required daily
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers and ascertain what each customer wants or needs
  • Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on customer needs and desires
  • Compute sales prices, total purchases, and receive and process cash or credit payment including credit/EBT cards
  • Prepare merchandise for purchase to include but not limited ticketing, arranging, and displaying merchandise to promote sales
  • Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise
  • Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment, exchanges and returns, and security practices
  • Describe and demonstrate use or operation merchandise and explain use, operation, and care of merchandise to customers
  • Watch for and recognize security risks and thefts and know how to prevent or handle these situations
  • Clean shelves, counters, displays, and tables; stock inventory and requisition new stock/merchandise
  • Open and close cash registers, performing tasks such as counting money, separating charge slips, coupons, and vouchers, balancing cash drawers, and making deposits; maintain records related to sales
  • Scan all merchandise presented by the guest (or uses correct SKU or Dept.) using the cash register and/or gasoline console to show amount due
  • Prepare a pay-point report at the completion of shift in accordance with company guidelines
  • Operate cash register by ringing all purchases into the proper department on the cash register, per company policy; Change cash register receipt tapes when needed
  • Cook and prepare a variety of fast foods, including deep fried foods according to production guidelines and standardized recipes
  • Properly store food by adhering to food safety policies and procedures
  • Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and utensils and report maintenance issues as necessary
  • Develop and review menu schedule to determine food requirements including variety and quantity of food for preparation and to assemble supplies and equipment needed for daily cooking activities
  • Review inventory and consider budget when suggesting the purchase of supplies for the kitchen
  • Maintain the retail hot food, fountain, frozen beverage and coffee sections ensuring counters are clean, food is stocked, and drink stations are prepared
  • Check refrigeration equipment for performance: minimum of 1x per shift; complete Daily Shift Inspection within one hour of the start of the shift
  • Instruct customers on how to use self-serve equipment as needed
  • Communicate with management regarding guest or vendor requests or concerns
  • May perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position
