About The Position

The Retail Store Environment Team Member is responsible for maintaining a high standard of the store's overall look and feel, including cleanliness and recovery standards, to uphold the company's Brand Promises. This role involves delivering friendly customer service, assisting customers with their shopping needs, and performing various cleaning tasks such as trash disposal, floor cleaning (dusting and mopping), and deep cleaning of key areas like bathrooms, breakrooms, entryways, and other high-traffic zones to ensure a clean and safe environment for both customers and staff. The team member must keep cleaning equipment organized, proactively notify supervisors of supply needs, and take initiative to clean areas as required. All tasks must be completed in accordance with federal, state, and county guidelines. Additionally, the role requires maintaining positive and respectful interactions with team members and customers, projecting a positive image, and serving as a role model. Other duties may include providing fast and friendly checkout experiences, handling cash, engaging customers in the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards, assisting with Omni channel processes (Buy Online Pickup in Store and Ship from Store), participating in truck unloading, stocking, and planogram processes, supporting shrink and safety programs, and adhering to Standard Operating Procedures and Company policies.

Requirements

Applicants in the U.S. must satisfy federal, state, and local legal requirements of the job
Michaels requires all team members in this role to be at least sixteen (16) years or older
Ability to remain standing for long periods of time
Ability to move throughout the store
Regular bending, lifting, carrying, reaching and stretching
Lifting heavy boxes and accessing high shelves by ladder or similar equipment

Responsibilities

Maintain a high standard of overall look and feel of the store which includes maintaining store cleanliness and recovery standards to deliver our Brand Promises
Deliver friendly customer service, help customers shop our store and find what they’re looking for
Collects and disposes of trash following approved procedures
Dust and damp mops floors following approved procedures
Moves equipment and products for proper cleaning and places products back in correct placement
Cleans assigned areas with the use of assigned materials and equipment
May require mixing water and detergents in containers to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications
Deep clean key areas of the store including but not limited to bathrooms, breakrooms, entry ways and other high traffic areas to maintain a clean, safe environment for customers and staff
Must keep cleaning equipment neat and orderly; notify supervisor of supply needs in advance for replenishment
Seeks out areas requiring cleaning; takes initiative to complete the task
Completes all tasks assigned by supervisor
Performs tasks in accordance with all federal, state and county guidelines
Maintain positive and respectful interactions with both team members and customers, even in difficult situations, in keeping with the organization’s vision and values
Project a positive image and serve as a role model for other Team Members
Provide a fast and friendly check out experience; execute cash handling to standards
Engage customers on benefits of Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards and complete enrollments
Assist with Omni channel processes, including Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship from Store (SFS)
Participate in the truck un-load, stocking, and planogram (POGs) processes
Support shrink and safety programs
Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Company programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws and requirements; execute Company policies and standards
