About The Position

Works under direct supervision of the Retail Pharmacy Services Director. May be designated as pharmacist-in-charge per VBOP regulations. Provides required oversight for pharmaceutical services, pharmacy technicians, including preparation and dispensing of drugs, specialty pharmacy, meds-to-beds, transitions of care, scheduling and other retail pharmacy services. Ensures pharmacy customer/patients receive medications in a timely manner. Maximizes customer/patient quality of service within boundaries of expertise. Maintain and develop inter-professional relationships with providers and nursing staff to promote retail/ specialty pharmacy growth. Performs all duties per state board regulations. Must work effectively with minimal supervision. Must maintain a professional decorum at all times. The Retail Pharmacy Supervisor provides pharmacy leadership for services provided and serves as a primary resource for the pharmacy daily operations. Supports staff development through regular communication and team huddles. Stays current with pharmacy law and practice regulations specific to retail and specialty pharmacy. Assists the organization through process improvement and development to improve quality and safety of the medication dispensing process. Personal professional development to meet or exceed area of service. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • BS or Pharm D from an accredited school of pharmacy (Required)
  • Completed ASHP approved PGY 1 residency or has one year management, clinical or specialty pharmacy experience (Required)
  • Strong clinical or specialty pharmacy background (Required)
  • Must be able-read and comprehend, manipulate numbers, and interpret data.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medication use process (Required)
  • Licensed Pharmacist - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) State of Virginialicense in good standing (Required)
  • Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP) - The Specialty Pharmacy Certification Board (SPCB) within 3 Years(Required)
  • Valid Drivers License Required

Nice To Haves

  • PGY-1 Residency (Preferred)
  • 1 year Previous work experience in hospital retail or specialty is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures Compliance with regulations and standards required for daily operations and standards required for daily pharmacy operations

  • Achieving retail/ specialty pharmacy goals in the areas of retail prescriptions, specialty pharmacy prescriptions and consultations employee prescriptions and med-to-beds prescriptions.
  • Supervises pharmacy personnel.
  • Prepares work schedules and monitors workload statistics; maintains appropriate staffing levels to match workload to promote patient safety.
  • Assists with budget review annually and reviews monthly financials to ensure expenditures are within budget guidelines.
  • Monitors and justifies all expenses exceeding budget.
  • Assists with monthly financial reporting and payroll submission
  • Demonstrates the ability to establish an environment of safety and assure safe practices for the patient as evidenced by recognizing and implementing safe medication practices, and following policies and procedures that comply with regulatory agency regulations.
  • Develops, Implements and maintains a program that improves the quality of pharmacy services, improves medication safe use, and supports the quality improvement plan of the organization.
  • Establishes productive, collaborative relationships with staff members and within the RHS community
  • Assists co-workers with the care of the customer.
  • Assists with other tasks when necessary.
  • Addresses customer needs regardless of assignment.
  • Owns problem through resolution or effective hand-off to appropriate team member
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills required to fulfill the pharmacist core role in supporting the retail/specialty pharmacy staff, physicians, and clinicians to provide for the needs of the patient.
  • Performance demonstrates efforts to improve patient satisfaction, lower costs, improve quality and promote safety.
  • Understands and meets teams’ needs and expectations.
  • Demonstrates the ability to address problems in a group setting using tools and techniques for identification and resolution of problems.
