Requirements

  • Current Pharmacist licensure in applicable state(s)

Responsibilities

  • Works with administration on planning, organizing, and directing pharmacy operations and ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Monitors activities in the Pharmacy Department and takes appropriate action as necessary to ensure efficient and effective operation.
  • Works closely with providers in addressing pharmaceutical services issues as they are related to the services provided to all patients ranging from the newborn to the elderly.
  • Understands that there are dosage variations between newborns, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics and knows where to find appropriate information.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and minimizes the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
  • Directs and controls the purchase and inventory maintenance of pharmaceuticals.
  • Oversees annual and biannual pharmacy physical inventory.
  • Keeps all department employees trained and up to date on current policies, procedures, and operations.
  • Prepares department budget for personnel, operating expenses, and capital equipment.
  • Responsible for fiscal operation of the department.
  • Works in the community to bring positive attention to the effective patient care that the pharmacy provides.
  • Demonstrates ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as dosage calculations, formulation of pharmaceutical preparations, and data analysis.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  • Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
  • Responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of performance improvement and CQI activities assigned to the Pharmaceutical Services Department.
  • When applicable, cross-trains and/or staffs in hospital/nursing home pharmacy.
  • Performs duties in accordance with training and expectations of the Director of Pharmacy.
  • Maintains skills and performs them in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations
  • Responds to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the hospital/clinic staff.
