About The Position

As the Retail Food Service Manager, you will oversee the successful daily operation of the Food & Nutrition Services retail and cafeteria programs under the direction of the Director of Food & Nutrition Services. You will lead a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment with an annual managed volume of $12.3 million, including $3.5 million in retail revenue. This role also supports a 120‑patient feeding census within a hybrid feeding model (CTY and Room Service). You will manage and develop a union hourly workforce of approximately 70 FTEs, ensuring exceptional service, operational excellence, and strong financial performance across all retail dining outlets.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Food Services Management, Hospitality, or related field; or an A.A. degree with three years of directly relevant experience.
  • 1–3 years of retail foodservice management experience, depending on education and training.
  • Strong understanding of food trends, production systems, sanitation protocols, food cost controls, and merchandising.
  • Experience in cash‑driven retail operations; contract‑managed service experience preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to supervise, motivate, and coach large teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Financial acumen including budgeting, forecasting, and basic accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, email platforms, and various operating systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the operational performance of retail and cafeteria services, ensuring high standards in quality, safety, presentation, and customer satisfaction.
  • Plan and execute special functions and events; manage cash controls, payroll documentation, and staffing levels.
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and ongoing training for a diverse hourly team.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate policies, food safety and sanitation standards, and retail presentation guidelines.
  • Train staff in customer service, portioning, cashiering, and compliance procedures.
  • Maintain all required daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports in accordance with corporate deadlines.
  • Build strong relationships and communicate effectively with team members, customers, patients, and families.
  • Implement and enforce cash‑handling and loss‑prevention procedures to protect company assets.
  • Support retail marketing initiatives to maximize participation and drive revenue growth.
  • Monitor budgets, cost controls, and financial performance to ensure alignment with P&L expectations.
