About The Position

The Retail Associate is responsible for customer service, sales, cashiering, stocking, sorting, inventory management, sizing, color coordination, and cleaning activities within a retail store environment. Key duties include receiving donations, processing various merchandise, conducting sales transactions, and maintaining store cleanliness. The role requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of electronic devices.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Applying common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months of related experience or training is highly desirable.
  • Prior cashiering experience is a plus.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Receive donations: greet donors, accept and unload donated materials, enter customer general information into a smart device (such as a phone or tablet), and thank donors for their donated items.
  • Processing: sort, separate, and hang clothing and household items.
  • Sort, test, clean, and mark small appliances, housewares, shoes, seasonal items, and other assorted merchandise.
  • Cashiering: Conduct sales transactions and maintain control of cash and credit card transactions by following proper procedures for voids, discounts, refunds, checks, and credit card payments.
  • Cleaning duties (including but not limited to) bathrooms, floors, shelves, windows, break room, store fixtures, fitting rooms, dock area, store exterior, and merchandise counters.
  • Report issues that require maintenance repairs.
  • Customer service activities (including but not limited to) customer assistance, pricing merchandise, fitting room, offering recycling bags, explaining store operations, and other sales techniques that may enhance the store’s sales and community image.
