About The Position

The Retail Associate position involves a variety of tasks within a retail store environment, focusing on customer service, sales, cashiering, stocking, sorting, inventory management, sizing, color coordination, and cleaning activities. Key responsibilities include receiving donations, processing merchandise such as clothing and household items, conducting sales transactions, and maintaining store cleanliness. The role also requires providing customer assistance, pricing merchandise, and supporting sales efforts to enhance the store's image and sales performance. The associate must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent education, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of electronic devices.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

  • Prior cashiering experience.

Responsibilities

  • Receive donations: greet donors, accept and unload donated materials, enter customer general information into a smart device (such as a phone or tablet), and thank donors for their donated items.
  • Processing: sort, separate, and hang clothing and household items.
  • Sort, test, clean, and mark small appliances, housewares, shoes, seasonal items, and other assorted merchandise.
  • Cashiering: Conduct sales transactions and maintain control of cash and credit card transactions by following proper procedures for voids, discounts, refunds, checks, and credit card payments.
  • Perform cleaning duties including (but not limited to) bathrooms, floors, shelves, windows, break room, store fixtures, fitting rooms, dock area, store exterior, and merchandise counters.
  • Report issues that require maintenance repairs.
  • Perform customer service activities including (but not limited to) customer assistance, pricing merchandise, fitting room support, offering recycling bags, explaining store operations, and other sales techniques that may enhance the store’s sales and community image.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
