About The Position

The Restorative Justice Coordinator will be responsible for elevating & implementing restorative and transformative justice values and practices into policies, program curriculum and service delivery in the Justice Division programs at HYP. These programs include but are not limited to CARC and Seeds of Change. This position will also be responsible to coordinate with Justice Division leadership, justice system and community-based partners to implement, and expand CARC’s restorative justice service components: RESET (Restoring & Empowering Social Equity & Truth) and AFTER (Aims to Foster Transformation and Ensure Restitution). This position is primarily in-person at our center with also significant time spent in the community, partner schools, other HYP locations, CBO sites & at the Juvenile Justice Center. The Justice Division Programs generally operate Monday-Friday 10am-10pm and Saturdays 10-6pm with an expected expansion of hours to midnight six days a week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, ethnic studies, human/social services or related field or equivalent training and/or work experience
  • Minimum two-years experience with curriculum development, project design, implementation and evaluation within restorative or transformative justice programming/service delivery
  • Training, experience & strong knowledge of best practices in restorative justice and youth development theory and practice
  • Minimum two-years experience working with youth from diverse, marginalized communities/identities using a youth development approach
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with schools, community organizations, system partners and other youth serving entities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work independently as well as be able to work cohesively in a culturally diverse team environment
  • TB clearance
  • Valid CA driver’s license, clear DMV record, and reliable transportation
  • Two years driving experience
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19
  • Must pass the DOJ/FBI background check. Due to our requirements with licensing, candidates with backgrounds including items on this non-exemptible crimes list will not be eligible for exemption at this time.

  • Bilingual capability in Spanish, Cantonese or other San Francisco Threshold languages is strongly preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of community-based organizations serving adolescents in the San Francisco Bay Area

Responsibilities

  • Design, present and provide workshops and/or training on restorative justice to Justice Division and/or other HYP program staff, community and system partners
  • Maintain & coordinate collaboration with internal & external Justice Division partners: San Francisco Unified School District, San Francisco Youth Justice Initiative (SFYJI) partners, JSCC Organizations, the Financial Justice Project, DCYF, SF Juvenile Probation Department, SF DA’s office, SF Public Defender's office, SF Bar Association, and any other organizations/systems that are deemed appropriate as it relates to operating, re-establishing & expanding restorative justice programs or services
  • Coordinate & implement services through meetings and joint projects with the Justice Division programs and other community based organizations/youth service providers and represent HYP in the community
  • Support, create & facilitate community group conferencing, community building circles and/or other RJ service components as needed
  • Responsible for reviewing, implementing and consulting on the CARC agreements chart and monitoring of agreement plans
  • Create & implement a RJ programming (ie. AFTER & RESET) strategic plan in collaboration with Justice Leadership
  • Mentoring and assisting in the training and onboarding of staff that will be directly involved in the restorative justice programming within the Justice Division
  • Ability to assess & provide care coordination for youth referred to CARC on a case by case basis
  • Participate in regular supervision with the CARC Director, attend & participate in justice program team meetings, monthly site staff meetings and attend agency meetings & special events
  • Process & coordinate services and referrals for AFTER & RESET
  • Ability to assess & provide care coordination for youth referred to CARC on a case by case basis
  • Provide direct service & restorative case management for up to 5 youth referred to the AFTER & RESET programs as needed
  • Ensure timely data & documentation in relation to assessments, consents, referrals, program recruitment, restorative justice or community building circles, presentations/workshops, youth & family engagement and service provision within the Justice Division programs
  • Research, develop, review and modify justice programming curriculum and programmatic services
  • Assist in writing progress reports and other status reports to funders & the HYP Development team
  • Support with administrative responsibilities as needed such as reception, filing, organizing supplies, office cleaning, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned to run effective justice programming
