About The Position

The iconic Hotel del Coronado is looking for a Restaurant General Manager to join the Verdana leadership team! Join one of the last surviving wooden Victorian beach resorts in the world and after a $400M renovation and expansion, the resort is more stunning than ever. The quintessential al fresco dining experience with spectacular ocean views, Veranda is a journey of familiarity rediscovered. The menu of exceptionally prepared American favorites is inspired by The Del’s Southern California roots, elevating clean, fresh flavors and regional produce, while classic cocktails and a California-forward wine list provide the finishing touch. Located on Coronado Island just minutes from Downtown San Diego, this 28-acre property was built in 1888 and has over 750 rooms (to include cottages and villas), 65,000 square feet of banquet space, and 10 food and beverage outlets. This includes 4 restaurants, 2 bars, food truck, marketplace, ice cream shop, and in-room dining. In this role, you will be overseeing the day-to-day operations of the new Veranda, reporting to the Assistant Director of Food & Beverage, directly overseeing 1 Food and Beverage Manager. 1 Food & Beverage Supervisor and 55 Front of House Team Members. The ideal candidate must be an exceptional leader with a passion for creating extraordinary experiences, a talent for training and developing others, and experienced in all aspects of restaurant operations (ex. financial performance, social media reputation, local market capture, and employee relations). At least 3 years of restaurant management experience in an upscale dining environment is required. Strong beverage knowledge and managing a unionized work environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and direct all aspects of restaurant operations to include, but not limited to, guest service standards and initiatives, product quality, cost controls and overall profitability, marketing initiatives, systems use and management, budgeting and forecasting, department management, policy and procedure implementation and enforcement and meeting participation and facilitation
  • Monitor and develop team member performance to include, but not limited to, providing supervision and professional development, conducting counselling and evaluations and delivering recognition and reward
  • Create and maintain customer database and partner with Sales and Marketing/Public Relations on marketing strategy
  • Maximize efficiency technology system(s) (i.e. Open Table)
  • Monitor and assess service and satisfaction trends, evaluate and address issues and make improvements accordingly
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, sanitation and alcohol awareness standards
  • Initiate and implement up-selling techniques to promote restaurant food and beverage and services and to maximize overall revenue, including, but not limited to, creating new menus and cross-selling products and services hotel-wide
  • Recruit, interview and train team members
