About The Position

Cedars-Sinai, a Magnet-designated hospital for nursing excellence, is seeking a Respiratory Therapist III. This role involves performing general ward therapy procedures, including O2 therapy, bland aerosol therapy, medicinal aerosol therapy, volume expansion therapy, bronchial hygiene procedures, and CPR. The Respiratory Therapist III will also handle Adult Critical Care RT procedures, such as the setup and management of continuous invasive and non-invasive ventilator systems, specialty gases, and related monitoring and encouraging adjuncts. Training in Arterial Puncture for Blood Gas Analysis is required. The position encourages additional training in subspecialty services like Perinatal/Pediatric Ventilator Systems, Bronchoscopy Assist, Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center RT procedures, and RT Order Entry System Operation, with the expectation to function in these areas once proficient. The role offers the opportunity to work with dedicated healthcare professionals in brand new facilities.

Requirements

  • Training in of performance of Arterial Puncture for Blood Gas Analysis is required
  • Certified / Registered Pulmonary Function Tech upon hire (for Pulmonary Function lab)
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working in pulmonary function testing (for Pulmonary Function lab)

Responsibilities

  • Perform general ward therapy procedures including: 02 therapy, bland aerosol therapy, medicinal aerosol therapy, volume expansion therapy, bronchial hygiene procedures, CPR
  • Perform Adult Critical Care RT procedures including: setup and management of continuous invasive and non-invasive ventilator systems, specialty gases, and related monitoring and encouraging adjuncts
  • Function as assigned in the subspecialty areas (Perinatal/ Pediatric Ventilator Systems, Bronchoscopy Assist, Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center RT procedures, RT Order Entry System Operation) in which they have been trained and adjudged functionally proficient
  • Schedules patient testing (Pulmonary Function lab)
  • Verifies MD orders and diagnosis-based indications for testing (Pulmonary Function lab)
  • Ensures pre-test pulmonary history and consent for exercise testing are complete, explains the purpose and side effects of ordered tests to patients (Pulmonary Function lab)
  • Performs pulmonary function tests, exercise tests, arterial puncture (Pulmonary Function lab)
  • Collates and submits verified results for pulmonologist interpretation (Pulmonary Function lab)
  • Completes and submits patient billings (Pulmonary Function lab)
  • Receives lab specimen from tube system for analysis (ABG Lab)
  • Verify and validate patients information on the blood sample to test ordered (ABG Lab)
  • Analyze blood sample per department policy and procedure (ABG Lab)
  • Validate and report critical lab results to provider / patient’s nurse (ABG Lab)
  • Participate in lab correlation and linearity studies required by governing bodies (ABG Lab)
  • Troubleshoot analyzer and perform minor maintenance on analyzer when required (ABG Lab)
  • Performs quality control and proficiency testing sample analysis (ABG Lab)
  • Adheres to blood gas lab safety and infection control policies (ABG Lab)
