About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist II at Cedars-Sinai is a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) responsible for performing general ward therapy procedures, including oxygen therapy, bland aerosol therapy, medicinal aerosol therapy, volume expansion therapy, bronchial hygiene procedures, and CPR. The role also encompasses Adult Critical Care RT procedures, such as the setup and management of continuous invasive and non-invasive ventilator systems, specialty gases, and related monitoring and encouraging adjuncts. Training in Arterial Puncture for Blood Gas Analysis is a requirement. Opportunities for additional training are available in subspecialty services like Perinatal/Pediatric Ventilator Systems management, Bronchoscopy Assist, Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center RT procedures, and RT Order Entry System Operation. Upon completion of training and demonstrated proficiency, therapists are encouraged to function in these subspecialty areas. The position also includes specific duties within the Pulmonary Function lab and ABG Lab.

Requirements

  • Training in performance of Arterial Puncture for Blood Gas Analysis.
  • Certified / Registered Pulmonary Function Tech (upon hire for Pulmonary Function lab duties).
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working in pulmonary function testing (for Pulmonary Function lab duties).

Responsibilities

  • Perform general ward therapy procedures including: 02 therapy, bland aerosol therapy, medicinal aerosol therapy, volume expansion therapy, bronchial hygiene procedures, CPR.
  • Perform Adult Critical Care RT procedures including: setup and management of continuous invasive and non-invasive ventilator systems, specialty gases, and related monitoring and encouraging adjuncts.
  • Function as assigned in subspecialty areas (Perinatal/Pediatric Ventilator Systems, Bronchoscopy Assist, Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center RT procedures, RT Order Entry System Operation) after training and demonstrated functional proficiency.
  • Schedule patient testing (Pulmonary Function lab).
  • Verify MD orders and diagnosis-based indications for testing (Pulmonary Function lab).
  • Ensure pre-test pulmonary history and consent for exercise testing are complete (Pulmonary Function lab).
  • Explain the purpose and side effects of ordered tests to patients (Pulmonary Function lab).
  • Perform pulmonary function tests, exercise tests, arterial puncture (Pulmonary Function lab).
  • Collate and submit verified results for pulmonologist interpretation (Pulmonary Function lab).
  • Complete and submit patient billings (Pulmonary Function lab).
  • Receive lab specimen from tube system for analysis (ABG Lab).
  • Verify and validate patients information on the blood sample to test ordered (ABG Lab).
  • Analyze blood sample per department policy and procedure (ABG Lab).
  • Validate and report critical lab results to provider / patient’s nurse (ABG Lab).
  • Participate in lab correlation and linearity studies required by governing bodies (ABG Lab).
  • Troubleshoot analyzer and perform minor maintenance on analyzer when required (ABG Lab).
  • Perform quality control and proficiency testing sample analysis (ABG Lab).
  • Adhere to blood gas lab safety and infection control policies (ABG Lab).
