At Stony Brook Medicine, Respiratory Care is an allied health specialty focused on diagnostic cardiopulmonary evaluation and respiratory therapy treatment for patients with cardiopulmonary system deficiencies and abnormalities. This includes educating patients, families, and the public. The role requires excellent interpersonal skills, time management, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across all organizational levels. Respiratory Care Practitioners operate under the supervision of the Department's Director and/or Associate Director(s). They are responsible for performing a range of basic and advanced respiratory procedures, including intubation, arterial puncture, blood gas analysis, and mechanical ventilator management for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients across various intensive care units such as Surgical, Medical, Burn, Pediatric, Neonatal, Cardiac Surgery, and Anesthesia Post-Op. Additionally, the incumbent will perform other relevant respiratory therapy and patient care duties as needed.
