About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist 2 learns, performs and completes assignments/responsibilities assigned during the transitional duty period. This position provides safe and effective respiratory care as an advanced Respiratory Therapist for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric populations in accordance with discipline training, Clinical Practice Guidelines, and hospital standards and protocols. This position serves as a respiratory care resource and educator for patients, caregivers, hospital staff and students. If applicable, this position functions as a shift team leader in the absence of the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Respiratory Therapist required
  • Current certification or registry from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required
  • Current CPR certification as required by practice setting
  • On or after 1/1/2015, new hires must be current RRT.
  • Current license as a Respiratory Therapist by the Commonwealth of Virginia required
  • Current CRT or RRT required
  • Current CPR certification as required by practice setting
  • Current NRP certification as required by practice setting On or after 1/1/2015, new hires must be current RRT.
  • One (1) year of work experience as a Respiratory Therapist
  • Education, training and/or experience that has satisfied the eligibility requirements for the National Board for Respiratory Care (or its predecessor organizations)

Nice To Haves

  • Current related credentials from the NBRC or National Asthma Educator Certification Board (NAECB) preferred
  • Current ACLS and/or PALS preferred
  • Two (2) years of work experience as a Respiratory Therapist
  • Previous affiliation or work experience in a similar practice setting
  • Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy from a Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accredited program

Responsibilities

  • Cardiopulmonary assessment and monitoring, including during emergency response
  • Airway care
  • Selecting appropriate ventilators and non-ordered ventilator parameters
  • Consulting with physicians and interdisciplinary team members regarding the appropriateness of the patient care plan
  • Maintaining work areas in a clean and well stocked manner
  • Perform shift team leader role in the supervisor's absence, if applicable
