About The Position

Respiratory Care Practitioner - Respiratory Therapy - Sharp Coronado Hospital - Variable - Per Diem Hours : Shift Start Time: Variable Shift End Time: Variable AWS Hours Requirement: 12/36 - 12 Hour Shift Additional Shift Information: Weekend Requirements: As Needed On-Call Required: No Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum): $43.650 - $56.340 - $63.100 This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with SEIU-UHW. As part of the terms of employment, employees in this role are required to join the union within 31 days of hire and remain a member (e.g. dues paying, fee paying, religious exception contributor) for the duration of the collective bargaining agreement. This position was originally posted to ratified SEIU members from 2/4/2026 to 2/12/2026. The position is now available to be filled by internal candidates that are not members of the ratified Bargaining Unit or External candidates to Sharp. What You Will Do Plans and administers assigned respiratory care functions and duties.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a CoARC accredited respiratory therapy program
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) - The National Board of Respiratory Care
  • California Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP) - Respiratory Care Board of CA
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree Related field
  • One (1) year Respiratory Care experience
  • ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)

Responsibilities

  • Communicates patient status, observed change and responses to appropriate member of the healthcare team.
  • Consistently updates IPOC/IPER once per shift.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for and interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs.
  • Attends patient care rounds.
  • Proficient in computer systems for data entry charges/credits.
  • Maintains patient records as per department guidelines.
  • Enters patient charges/credits as directed with specified time frame.
  • Point of care documentation.
  • Adheres to aseptic technique and universal precautions.
  • Considers patient safety, age, cultural; psychosocial/physical needs of patients and families when providing care.
  • Provides explanation to patient and family prior to administering care and answers questions.
  • Perform and adheres to department established patient care assessment and / or patient driven protocol.
  • Identifies inappropriate care and follows through with appropriate recommendations.
  • Participates in orientation of new staff / students.
  • Completes delegated duties within timeframes or reports to the appropriate healthcare team member when unable to complete assignment.
  • Accepts additional assignments willingly.
  • Demonstrates ability to adapt to changing work loads with adherence to all department rules and guidelines of care. (Answering pages timely)
  • Demonstrates ability to organize, prioritize and complete assignment in timely manner including taking breaks / lunch.
