Requirements

  • MINIMUM EDUCATION: Associates degree in Respiratory Care. Bachelors Degree in Respiratory Care or related science preferred.
  • MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 2 years or greater
  • JUDGEMENT: Employee may work independently under the general direction of their leader.
  • LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Currently licensed as an active Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of Georgia.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Active membership in American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC)
  • MUST HAVE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CERTIFICATIONS: ECMO training certification Intubation certification FCCS instructor PALS certification NRP certification AARC Pulmonary Disease Educator AARC Asthma Educator Certificate AARC Pulmonary Rehabilitation certificate
  • BLS required
  • ACLS required for adult critical care within 6 months of hire
  • NPS preferred if working in Special care nursery/NICU
  • ACCS preferred if working in Critical Care
  • CPFT and/or RPFT preferred if working in PFT
  • AE-C preferred if working in the Asthma Clinic
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • PFT (pulmonary function testing) experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Completes and Maintains all competencies
  • Refers and Guides others in the use of policies and procedures in the clinical setting
  • Assures competence to function if working in new area
  • Assures equipment is functioning properly and is ready for emergent situations; taking items out of service and reporting failures as needed
  • Serves as a role model for peers
  • Assesses unit work and report to supervisor/charge anticipates needs
  • Provides mentor level support for respiratory care practitioner I
  • Assists with patient care team discussions during complex patient care situations
  • Competent in clinical areas as appropriate
  • Competent and functions as a Preceptor
  • Must complete Preceptor course
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Competent in 1 of the following critical/specialty care areas: NICU, ICU, ECMO, CVICU, ED,CPET, Pulmonary Rehab IP(interventional pulmonary) etc.
  • Encouraged to participate as a super user to department related in-services and annual skill sessions.
  • Suggest modifications to care to patient care team
  • Acquires resources not readily available
  • Serves as a resource for ventilator management
  • Regularly attends department meetings (75%)
  • Regularly attends in services and educational offerings
  • Supports the evaluation of new equipment
  • Reviews policies and procedures to guide practice.
  • Highly encouraged to attend one professional Local, State or National Respiratory conference every two years
  • Serves as a preceptor/mentor for RCP level 1 respiratory therapists.
