About The Position

The Resource Specialist provides support to District Operations to ensure all programs offered by the agency are administered within the District. This role involves supporting the District Forester with the delivery of Field Operation programs, which may include preparing tract and stand maps, collecting property and stand data, interacting directly with clientele, drafting management plans, capacity building, conservation education, fire prevention, and special projects. The specialist will also serve as a wildland firefighter and/or emergency responder on a statewide basis, operating heavy firefighting equipment, using hand firefighting tools, and performing ground reconnaissance on wildfires. The position requires managing and accounting for assigned credit cards, vehicles, and equipment, ensuring they are maintained in good working order and properly serviced. The employee must meet and annually maintain a physical fitness standard, including successfully completing a two-mile walk in 30 minutes or less with a 25-pound pack, and obtaining required NWCG training and Red Card Certification. The role demands 24-hour availability for emergency response, requiring a response within 30 minutes of notification. The work environment involves operating heavy equipment with exposure to vibrations and noise, harsh environmental conditions, and significant physical demands.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • None (for experience).
  • PC-based programs and software.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Valid Texas CDL Class A or ability to obtain one within 180 days of date of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Vehicles and equipment must be maintained in good working order and properly serviced.

  • Employee will carry a communication device to facilitate 24-hour availability.
  • Will be required to respond to dispatcher within 30 minutes of receiving an emergency call, notification, or alert.
